Did the ride for the Fallen 7 in New Hampshire on Saturday, saw a couple of Valks. Left at 8am, got to Laconia by 11, then waited for the ride to start. Was surprised and touched by the number of people that were on the side of the road with flags, peace signs, thumbs up and other signs of encouragement. Never quite made it to the actual site of the Ceremony, by the time I started to walk down the road, bikes were already leaving. Then the heavens opened up. Figured I could get hit by lightning as easily while standing under a tree as I could while riding, so I took off on the dirt/gravel road, and finally got back to pavement. It rained most of the way to Laconia, stopped for lunch, and the rain started up south of Manchester. I was about 5 miles away from home when I came to a stop sign, put the brakes on and my left foot down, and found myself lying on my left side/back, nobody hit me, but I was preoccupied with the idiot that had come up behind me and was driving closer that I was comfortable with, it was wet, and I just lost it. Pain in my left side, police and ambulance came, removed my helmet after talking with me, put me on a board and took me to the Hospital. Fractured #5 & #6 ribs... Morphine is wonderful! Kept me overnight for observation, and sent me home yesterday afternoon. Going to order a recliner, in & out of bed is painful... Just waiting to call my Doctor. One of the reasons for doing the ride was that the gentleman who sold me the house is a Jarhead and rides a trike, just wanted to pay my respects... no damage to the Vultus, see you on the road in 4 - 8 weeks, depending on how it goes. Kinda ends the Italian Band season too.. all for a lousy Laugh-In slow-mo rollover...

Man, what a bummer. Hope your heal time is short and not too restrictive.

I had three of those drops on my trip to Taos. Brain farts grabbing the front brake. More embarrassing than anything.

Sorry for your troubles Karen.

This is not my idea of good motorcycle excitement.

Rest up and I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear about your incident, but glad you are relatively okay. Is your bike home? If you need it picked up or anything let me know I have a truck and trailer.  Heal quick.

Thank you all for the kind words and well wishes, Chris, nobody knows as well as you what a small thing this was! Saw the doctor yesterday, and he changed up my pain meds, was able to sleep last night, moving is less painful, and I'm still running on my last night's dose and skipped my morning pills! I promise not to overdo... anything... Life is good, thanks again, this, too, will pass...

Oh my God! Glad to hear you are going to heal fully.
Kathy's almost in tears. Not Karen!
I told her you were a tough young bird and will be back to full Karen status in no time.

So it's a little over a week later, and I'm getting around much better. Today, I went to the fire house and thanked whoever was there for their prompt and excellent care the night of the accident. Then I went back to the intersection, to try and understand how and why the accident happened, why I went over on the left side, when my left foot was down, and why I went down hard enough to break two ribs, when I've recently had three instances of falling over while stopping, always to the right, and never a bruise or a scratch. I'm aware that it's a new bike to me and that my responses are not yet so ingrained as to be automatic, and that adding a rear rack and trunk and a front sound bar all shift the center of gravity and affect the handling, and wondering if it is time for the old lady to get rid of the new bike, as some friends have suggested... The stop sign is on an uphill rise, which is also slanted downhill to the left. There is a fair amount of heavy truck traffic on that road, and the parts of the lane that hold the tires while stopping are 3 - 4" lower than the sides and center of the lane. You can't really see it in the dark and rain, and frankly, I never noticed it in the many times I've ridden or driven through there; there's almost always traffic, and the road surface isn't visible, and definitely not a high priority. I believe my wheels slid off the center crest, hit the bottom of the dent, and flipped me down onto the pavement. On my right handed slow motion get-offs, I always landed clear of the machine, on this one, my legs were still under the bike. I've ordered the air vest, thanks for the suggestion, Andy, and will wait until the ribs have healed to resume my wind gathering career. Thanks for listening, glad I was able to rationalize this all away...
