Season 1
This was recommended to me by my son, who is also a rider. It is on Amazon Prime for streaming if you are a member or DVD at various libraries released in 2004. It is a 10 part show about a hour each showing a two good friends taking a three month motorcycle trip from London going east through much of Russia, taking a flight to Alaska and then riding to New York. One of the riders is Ewan McGregor of Star Wars fame. This is an unscripted documentary of the trip showing all the hardships as well as the euphoric moments. A camera crew/supply crew travel similar route. Incredibly well done series. (I never knew a Jedi cursed and smoked.

It’s an excellent show, they made a second season called ”long way down”  where they went from Scotland to South Africa if I remember correctly.  They are talking about making a third one from Alaska to Argentina next year I believe.  cooldude cooldude

Not only those 2 videos, but they also did a book to accompany it. I HIGHLY recommend reading each book BEFORE watching the video series. You get a lot more out of the book, and you then understand what you see in the video a little better.

Long Way Round is excellent.  Long way down, not as much, too much arguing and disagreement.

It looks like they are getting ready to film Long Way Up. I'll watch it too either way!

Motorcyclist magazine had an Ad that mentioned another riding series from Ewan McGregor but I can't recall the name off hand.

There was another by Boorman a few years ago, tyring to remember the name. He road through Canada again. A search should find it.

They have a good series going here.  I’ve read both the books and watched both series and now they are on the 3rd part from South America to Los Angelas on Harley’s electric Livewire.  The book and the Netflix series will surely follow; I look forward to them next year.

For those of you wanting a read from a real writer, look for “Jupiter’s Travels”by Ted Simon; an early 1970’s book of a London Times writer doing a four year journey around the world.  An EXCELLENT writer much beyond the ability of the “Long Way” series. I’m saving “Dreaming of Jupiter” by Ted Simon for the long winter coming.  Good writers, especially motorcycle related, can be a rare find.
