I'm looking for some guidance here. I want to install smaller LED turn signals on the rear of my '14 Valkyie to mount some longer hard bags. When I connect the new LED signals I get the faster flash rate. I was surprised because the bike already has LED signals. So I tried some resistors to increase the resistance like I would normally if the bike originally had incandescent bulbs but instead of slowing the flash rate, it simply doesn't flash at all. The front signals slow when the resistor is used but the rear doesn't light. The front signals are also "running lights" so I wonder if that has something to do with it. Went to dealer and they sold me an LED flash relay. I can't for the life of me find any info on where this relay is located on the bike. I think there are two differnt relays but I'm not sure. I can find youtube videos on GL1800 Goldwings but the flash relay is in under the front fairing. If anyone has used an LED flash relay or has the solution to my problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have specific answers for you - as yet I haven't opened the Service Manual to check the schematic, turn signal bulb number, etc.  But here are some things to consider.

Oops!  A "specific" answer, the turn signal "electronics" are under the rider's seat.

Are the turn signal bulbs in your longer rear turn signals the same bulbs as the OEM bulbs?  I think this is your issue.

LED bulbs for vehicles either come "with inline resistors" or plain (i.e., just LEDs).  The "inline resistors type" are what should be used when you are changing from incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs.  They will not perform reliably in systems that were designed for LED bulbs.

LEDs are "current" devices - the flow of current through their "junctions" cause them to illuminate.  I have a feeling that, when you put the resistors inline with your new turn signals, you "reduced" the current to the point that the LEDs won't illuminate.

I think what you need are turn signal bulbs with similar specs to the OEM bulbs.  That should solve your problem.  Personally, I wouldn't go digging into the electronics under the seat - that can be a "rabbit hole."  Simply look for bulbs that match the specs of the originals.

Hope this helps.

A fellow on the Florida board did a real nice turnsignal
mod where he moved the OEM ones to the taillight and it allowed
him to install OEM 1500 hardbags...

Thanks for your input Bill. The original signals are LED. They're aren't any bulbs to be attempting to match.  Kiss

That's what I did. I moved the signal lights down as well and did the mod that sheffjs did and it worked great. Not a hard mod to do and works really great.
