Last years Ride-In to Gettysburg was so successful that we decided to do another ride this year. We wanted to pick a place of interest and with historical interest, we chose Bardstown, Ky home to the Bourbon Trail. This area is loaded with history including the birth place of Lincoln….the town has an abundance of historical places, museums even horse and buggy rides, plenty of places to explore and to learn the history of Bourbon Whisky making. Joe and I rode out there last Friday to find a hotel for ground zero and to map out the ride and to select the best distillery to tour….the hotel we selected is right off the Blue Grass Pkwy and we were able to get a good discount on the rooms….we blocked off 30 rooms on the ground floor and the ground floor rooms have outside access to your bikes…the rooms are modern and clean with coffee pots, hair dryers, TV and some come with refrigerators…..they have a out side pool that will be open in May and a lounge….you get a hot breakfast with the room, consisting of eggs, sausage, toast, oatmeal, cereal, sweet buns, fruit, coffee, juices and a lot stuff I don’t remember…..they also have a Convention room and we were told that this could possibably thrown in if need it....next store to the hotel is Gas Stop with a store with coffee and food 24 hours a day. We selected to tour the Makers Mark Distillery, Hotglue and Flamingobabe highly recommended this place and the ride out there was outstanding passing thru the rolling hills of Ky. The folks there were very hospitable and serve hot coffee and cookies to all the tour people, this place was outstanding…..no fee’s for the tour, in fact there are not fee’s for any of the tours around town....Mark was right this place was like riding into estate, kinda set up like a village. From there we found back roads over to Fort Knox home of Patton Tank Museum, the museum is huge with action displays of the US Calvary history from the horseback days to the Gulf Wars…..very, very interesting place, you just have to see it to believe the displays…..the museum is about 50 miles from Makers Mark, thru some of the prettiest country side Kentucky has to offer….we’ll stop for lunch over there and from there back to the hotel for tire kicking and socializing. We’ll post more information thru out the winter and spring we hope to see all of you at this ride-in, it will be another event you don’t want to miss.

Any ride I go on is a Whiskey ride! Jim Beam is also a good place to go. Easy to find, between I-65 and Bardstown. Been there 2 or 3 times. Good thing is they give you free shots of their bourbon line! Can't wait to hear more about it this winter. Sounds like it will be a good time for all!

Don, is this going to be a ride like we did to Chambersburg where everyone meets and rides together? Sounds good to me.

Fudgie.....we rode past Jim Beam on the way to Fort Knox....we only have time to do one tour and Makers Mark got the nod....you'll really like that place....too bad you couldn't make it down to Bardstown this weekend, we had some great riding and sampled some Heaven Hill that evening....after all this was a fact finding run..

I'm putting that weekend on my calendar. I sure hope I can make it. Gettysburg was so much fun that I went back a few weeks later with my wife.

This ride-in willl hopefully turn out as good as the Blue/Grey ride......Kentucky is more centrally located.....I figure anyone with in a 300 mile radius would surely try to make this ride-in.....if you look at a map 300 miles drawn around Bardstown covers alot of terriotry....that only makes it a half days ride anyone within 500-600 makes it a full days ride.....of course if you're a far-rider anything within 1000 miles makes it a day ride The best thing about these rides is getting to meet folks from the VRCC who you don't even know are in the club and seeing the smiles from those you know....there are plenty of rooms at the hotel and another one across the street, so don't worry about getting a place to stay.........you've got all winter to try to fit this into your schedule so mark it on your calendars...
