Holy Sh*t Terry! Sherry and I didn't do that much riding in 3 days! Glad you're feeling well. Takes stamina to do that ride at your age!  Grin

That picture of the start of Route 1 in Kent is really cool. I'd like to make that ride some day. Maybe next summer. We'll see if we can round up some Boyz to do that ride.

So happy that you got out!

 Cool

I ran Rt 11 from the Bangor area up to Fort Kent Tony....some nice roads along with a stretch approximately 30 plus miles that is desolated....not a single vehicle what so ever, a lot of riding through the woods.  There is an Amish Community in the Patten area, so be aware of horse drawn carriages.

Rt 1 from Madawaska south to Calais is a nice ride once you get south of Houlton....Then Rt 9 back to Brewer (known as The Airline),,,,,wholly $hit !!!  About 20 miles into this section I had the cruise set at between 75 and 80 and was passed by a semi !!!  This route was specifically built for the trucking industry running from Canada to Maine and vise versa....Ask anybody that has ever run this road, Wally & Rich know it.  And a lot of the 90 miles is freshly paved....Sa-Mooooooth with long sweeping corners up and over gradual hills.

I had talked with Laurel a few times over the past month about taking this ride, and she wasn't all that excited about joining me....so yesterday was a day for me to 'solo it' and Laurel took care of her gardening and enjoyed a peaceful day to herself. I was always in contact with Laurel at every stop, letting her know where I was so she could follow me on a map here....I let her know when I was 1/2 hour from home and dinner was about ready with a cold frosted mug of beer waiting when I pulled in.

All things considered Tony, knowing I didn't have a set time frame to adhere to, I didn't get stressed or tired yesterday. I had all day and into the evening to relax and enjoy myself .... I stopped every hour and a half, maybe two hours max, got off and stretched / walked around for a few minutes to help the blood circulate back into my ass cheeks....fueled up when needed, and hydrated with a sport drink that has vitamins....

I was out the driveway at 4:45 am and pulled back into the driveway at 5:45 pm... almost as limp as a wet noodle !!!  cooldude

You did it right. Having Laurel know the route, taking periodic stops and checking in with Lauren when you stopped was excellent. The hardest part for me would be leaving at 4:45 AM. I'm a bit skittish now about driving in the dark, not because I can't see, but because of animals, i.e., deer and moose up your way.

At your suggestion, Sherry and I did ride the Airline last summer from just north of Bangor to 193 south, which we then road through the blueberry barrens to route 1. Beautiful! I enjoyed it that small taste of the Airline and I'd like more. I expect to get up again your way again next summer. This time I'd like to do it solo so that I can ride some of these beautiful roads with you.

Just give me a holler Tony, hopefully I won't be heading towards the emergency room like your last trip this way......

As far as leaving early, @ 4:45 the sun had started to break the horizon.....Once I reached Ellsworth
( 10 minutes ), I swapped my my clear view glasses for sun glasses.... From there it was 45 minutes to Rt 11....

The part of this ride to really 'rip it' was part of Rt 1 south of Houlton, and Rt 9......I gave myself a pucker factor a couple of times running triple digits on Rt 9.....Hiway peg grinding and pushing up, outer left side of my boot chaffing the pavement....Speed limit is 55.....nobody, and I mean NOBODY runs that road at those speeds !!!  When you are passed at 80 mph by a semi, you know these roads are really cool to ride........

Let me know next summer, if I'm as vigorous as this summer, I'd love to share it with you...  cooldude

You will need to keep your wing in 'old foggie mode' if riding with me  crazy2

I think it will be the other way around. You'll have to keep the RG in that mode. I haven't yet reached triple digits and the Wing is speed limited to 112 MPH.   Sad

Be careful Terry...I was zoned out enjoying a day ride down to Calais and back for lunch a few weeks back.

Saw a total of 5 cops, 2 Statie's  2 Sherriff's but it was the Bailyville town copper that caught me not paying attention.

I asked him, what did you get me for...was I speeding? He said, ya a little bit...I replied that I was afraid of that. He said, I got you at 71, I asked, what am I in. He said a 45.

I said...crap, lunch just got a whole lot more expensive , I added that I haven't had a ticket since high school. He said, well if your not a wanted felon and your record is as clean as you say it is...you may not be leaving with one today.

I left with a photo, verbal warning and a handshake agreement to slow down.  cooldude

The Lobstah roll lunch was very enjoyable but the ride home took forever going only 10 over.  Grin

I'm 'usually' at that 10 mph over the posted limit Rob....BUT occasionally
will roll on the throttle a little....especially sections of the airline.
I'm always cautious around the Bailyville area with the reservation near by...
Glad it worked out for you....It may have been a slower and boring ride
after your conversation with the officer, but the price of that lobster roll dropped too !!!!
