Yup, sadly I'm having to move so will move to the Green Bay area to be near my youngest daughter Toni. She wants me closer since as soon as I'm situated I have to start treatment for prostate cancer. I have no reason to stay in Florida any longer since Rita's will left the house and all the contents to her kids. After 25 years I'm coming away with nothing even though I talked to her about it numerous times. She alwys told me I could stay in the house as long as I wanted or until death, but the kids want to put the house on the market before the first of the year. So, this coming Wed. or Thurs. I'll be back in town and will start packing, hoping to be out and gone by or before the 27th of August. I don't need this at my age but will survive, even if the winters suck up there.

John I hate to see you leave, you will be missed. On the flip side it will be a relief to your family to have you closer. Stay warm up there.
My dad is 89 and lives in Az. and has refused to move to Fl. after mom died in 2005. We both agree that it would be easier to care for him when he needs it if he were closer. He doesn't like the humid weather we have here. I wish it could be different and him be closer to us.

John, it's purely none of my business.... but that is the most unfair thing that could have happened to you; the ultimate, compassionate, long-serving care giving guy, who couldn't find anyone to come and give him a break for an afternoon ride..... so he didn't take one.

A life estate is a simple enough thing to add to a will.

I wish you Godspeed and luck in your new adventure.

Welcome to Wisconsin!
Winters can be long but their are a lot of nice days during the winter.
There are only a few days where it's below 0.
I try and walk 4 miles a day and I usually can walk most days I just have to wear warm clothes.
You won't be riding for about 4 months that's the tough part.
Good luck with your move if you need anything let me know I'm a half an hour from Green Bay.

John,
Your situation sucks big time. But from what I know of you through this board you will make the best of it.

As far as Wisconsin weather goes, I always try to remember a comment that hangs in a local storefront window.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BAD WEATHER, JUST INAPPROPRIATE CLOTHING!

So sorry to hear of the situation you have been put in, does not seem fair at all. Wishing you all the best in your new venture. You will be greatly missed here. I would offer to help you get packed up, but right now I am very limited as to my activities. Do not be a stranger here, keep in contact.

Bill, this board is still "home" to me so I'll be staying in touch. Hope your situation improves as well.

When stationed in northern Maine we had a saying re. the weather; "they have 10 months of winter and 2 months of poor sledding."  The winters up there were rough....big time.

Jerry, if I get the townhome the kids are looking at for me, I won't be able to have the fat old Golden Retriever I want. The unit has a fireplace so I was going to train it to lay across my feet to keep them warm in winter. Since pets aren't allowed there I told my girls I'll have to just find a retired 60 yr. old hooker to keep me warm. You should have heard what followed from the girls, even thought they knew i was joking. So now I play that card to the hilt, really bugs them....the husbands get a kick out of it as do the grandkids who are in their mid 20's. Wonder what the girls will say if I bring home a lady friend from church one day? Should be interesting.  Wink  As for mego-rich, I could ck out one of the Walmart women owners but from what I've seen they're not exactly a day at the beach.  Grin

This is so wrong. Those children have no concern for you after all the years with their mother , and the final years giving her daily/hourly care . Just so sad . Greed is what this looks like and its ugly Sad .
Your love for Rita was so great , it showed in your postings here . You do not deserve to be treated like this.

I wish you the best John . May the Lord keep you safe and healthy .

Sad to hear about your predicament John. On a brighter note you could become a snowbird and have the best of both worlds. What ever you decide we know you’ll make the best of it.

I'm not sad about the moving part as much as I am about the circumstances under which this went down, but life is unfair as we know it. On a brighter note you're now gonna get closer to your kids and grand kids, and knowing how strong you are you'll definitely prevail. So long my friend  Cry

John, I read your post about having to move in the thread about your trip up North. Was sad to hear it and kept it to myself since you didn't post it in this board.
Please keep in touch and plan on coming up to see Lesa and I if we hit Tomahawk again next year. Would be great to see you.

I still cannot believe her kids can be that uncaring towards the man that kept their mother comfortable at the end and took care of her through several years of poor health. Point blank...that sucks!

Undecided  Good grief John, sure sorry to hear you're headed north but absolutely understand the reasons. A shame about the way things ended up. You were a good husband to take care of Rita as you did but you are strong so believe you'll rebound soon and have someone to keep your feet warm.  angel Prayers for you, your future in GB. Prayers for your treatments and I'm proving health. Perhaps we'll see you at a future InZane.  coolsmiley

Rita's kids didn't come right out and ask me to leave, they just told me they're listing the house for sale by the first of the year. That sounds like an exit request to me and total disregard of what their mother told me(and them) over the years....that I could stay in the house as long as I wanted, or until my death. But her big mistake was she never put that in writing, quickly pointed out to me. I was recently notified my application was accepted by the rental agency for a nice townhouse type apt. in DePere, southside suburb of Green Bay. It's 2 BR, 2bath, close to 1500 sq. ft., full kitchen with all appliances, washer/dryer all included, heat included also. I'll have my elec., water, & cable plus $965 rent. Neighbors say total seldom runs over $1100/mo. It's ground floor, own entrance like a house, and an attached double garage...an oversized one at that. Actually larger than my current garage, plus it's only 1.5 miles down the same road to my new primary care dr. and 3.5 to my daughter Toni's place. Straight down that same street that accesses my place and just past my dr. is a huge Walmart and right next door is a Menards....an outfit that puts Home Depot and Lowes to shame. Most importantly....to the right of their parking lot is a Dairy Queen and a Culvers(competitor). What more could a person want?  Wink A neat item in the living room is an electric fireplace, told my girls I hope it keeps me warm enough so I don't have to get me a retired 60 yr. old hooker to move in. It's all in fun but keeps my eldest in "fuss at dad" mode even though she knows it's not an option for me.

Toni has already bought a table/chairs off Facebook Market, heavy oak unit with 6 chairs. Next is she's looking at a complete bedroom set with new queen size mattress/box spring. Wants to get that stuff moved into place before I get there with the truck the last week of this month. My records from oncology/radiation here in Orlando have already been sent to Green Bay so soon as I'm settled in I can begin radiation and whatever else they throw at me. All these years in the south I kept my heavy jackets from living up north. While packing yesterday I found the majority still fit....the Lord works in mysterious ways indeed.  Grin

Here's a link to the management company, the pictures that scroll through are the same as the unit I'm getting, just reversed since it's the opposite side of the bldg. Hoping for a warm winter.  Wink

I have an appt. with an atty. next week, he's a specialist in senior affairs and issues such as what I'm facing....wills, prenups, trusts, etc. I'm still moving but would really be a good feeling if something was filed that gave me a piece of the action....and it would kinda get under their skin. I'm trying hard to not be ugly with them over the whole thing, we've had good family relationship for nearly 30 years and I'd like to settle things amicably if possible. Not sure it's going to be possible but I want to try.

John - That is great news. Certainly hoping you do not go lightly on them if the opportunity exists. They certainly did not go lightly on you!
