2001 I/S St. Michael MN

« on: August 14, 2019, 04:15:34 PM »

I'm getting ready to head north on Friday after work up to Walker Mn for their annual ride for Vet's.  Had the I/S out checking everything over twice then headed out to fill the tank so it's all ready Friday afternoon.

Pulled out of the garage, hit the remote to close the garage door and headed to the station.

Got one of those rare pumps that allow you to dribble the gas in at the end and headed back home.

Pull up to the house and go to hit the remote button and the remote is no longer there.  Huh, where in the heck did that thing go!

Of course I took the long way around  (Just a couple of miles extra) to the station.  So I was figuring the route I would take to find it but first I figured I'd stop and check if it caught somewhere on the bike.

So I turned in my driveway and magically the garage door opened.  Almost had to clean my drawers.  At first I was wondering if my wife got off work really early and heard me coming and opened the door but I could see her car wasn't there.

I parked in the garage and walked to the end of the driveway and there was the remote sitting in the street.  It's just a cheap off brand plastic remote and it must have fallen off when I transitioned from the driveway to the street.  When I came back I must have hit it just right to trigger the button and not destroy the thing.  The only damage was the metal clip was flattened.

I feel cheated now because I didn't get to go looking for it.

I close the garage door with my remote from the top of my drive way THEN the remote has It's own pouch in the W/S pouch. The remote has done 500+ miles after Church on a Sunday. And lotsa shorter trips. Glad ya found iut!  cooldude Sorry you missed the short search ride.  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

Long time ago I opened up the remote and soldered a wire to each side where the button makes contact when pressed. Ran a couple wires down to a spot just above the seat lock and installed a push button there. Now when coming down the street I just reach down and press that button and the door is open by the time I roll up. I just laid the remote on top of the battery cover....along with a half dozen other items.  cooldude

Hey, just because you found it doesn't mean you can't go looking.   ???

A few years ago, I went for a short commute into town wearing a long sleeve shirt and my leather vest.  I had the remote in my shirt pocket but it became possessed while I was rolling down the 4 lane at about 65.  It jumped out of my pocket and out from under the vest, made a short 3 hop dance in front of my face, and flipped over my shoulder and onto the highway.  I looked in the mirror as it was sliding along the pavement.  After 25 minutes of walking up and down a 1/4 mile of the median and the shoulder, I gave up the search.  That thing just evaporated somewhere there.

Glad you found yours.  cooldude

I carry my Remote in my left pocking of Mesh jacket.  No problem this time of year using it as I have on light leather gloves.  I can feel the remote and its button, door opens every time I push it.  But during colder months when I have thicker gloves and the shell over the jacket, hitting the button is a real challenge.  I have made several trips up and down my street before getting the button pressed.   Not sure what neighbors think, but it does help me with slow turns.   2funny

I helped a friend upgrade all the brake and clutch lines/cables on her new 2009 Yamaha Raider.  We installed a set of Cobra pipes and a commander module at the same time.  Anyway, she gave me a gizmo that installs in the headlight bucket that opens the garage door when you flash the high beams.

I think they still make them, but I forget what they are called.  Never have to worry about losing a remote now.
