So I managed to knock off the dust cap cover while changing the gear oil. Let's not get into specifics Tongue
and I've ordered what I think I need to replace. Has anyone dealt with this issue ? Does the part just cover or is it the whole unit which goes into the drum which to my understanding releases the build up of air pressure much like a pop off valve ? As always thanks in advance !

It's just the little chrome cap you see... I've tried to remove several of them unsuccessfully,
and have replaced those with new ones. I still have several new ones in my parts stash...

Should have mentioned that while waiting for the new part I gorilla glued the cap back on. Will that affect said part ?

If you glued the busted off chrome cap back to its tube, you should be fine.

If you glued the busted off chrome cap onto your final drive...  Roll Eyes

It is staked to the top of the pumpkin, to cover the breather hole.

It's not supposed to come off.

If you glued it back on, and it stays put, and it still breathes, you don't need a new one, unless your old one looks bad.  Or keep the new one, in case the glued one goes on vacation.

It apparently fits a whole pile of Hondas.

The dust cap appeared to be spot welded hence the reason I decided to try and glue it. Letting it cure overnight and the short ride home everything seems fine, is there anything in particular that would indicate that it's not functioning properly ?

The pumpkin warms up, but I doubt enough to make the glue let go.

Assuming the cap's sitting where it always was, it's probably still breathing.

I think a paperclip or wire should easily be wiggled down the vent far enough into the pumpkin to show it's open.  (don't lose it)

It's been many years (15?), but I vaguely recall yanking mine off by accident once (without breaking anything), and I believe I poked it back into place and mildly whacked it with a mallet a few times, and it never came out again (through multiple rear end services/new tires).

The cap is still where it always was....I'll drop the saddlebag and look for the spot to use a paperclip. Thanks for the replies !!!

Typical Honda - that cap fits a bazillion bikes and will be available for a long time.
