Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: August 19, 2019, 03:57:21 PM »

We'd barely arrived in Canada, when Dennis (Trout Dude) managed to set in motion an inter-provincial controversy that threatened to escalate out of control… It is possible that the Russians may be behind all of this, and maybe Trump had a hand in it too, but no clear linkage has emerged… so far; although, I understand CNN is staying on this story, and some members of congress, demanding impeachment proceedings begin, claim to actually have positive, indisputable proof of a conspiracy!

It all started innocently enough… We crossed the border without incident (neither of us were armed or carrying bear spray) and leisurely scooted to Fernie, BC, for our first night in this lovely land. We took a pic or three, dined well, and generally enjoyed our brief visit to this really scenic locale. No hint at this point of any brewing conflict… or what might set it off…

The ‘Three Sisters’ as viewed from our motel (which contained the words ‘Three Sisters’ in its name). Who could have known what all this would lead to?!

At first light…

The sun first nibbles at the tops of these ‘feminine’ geological siblings…

Full sun-up…

The two naïve travelers from way down south departed, rode by ‘Frank’s Slide’, and made their merry way to Calgary, AB, and the home of Terry & Linda Nickel, t-man403. We’d been there five years before, but it all still seemed so familiar… so right and good to be back! Our hosts were really gracious and hospitable… Looking back, it seems almost tragic the way we brought them to the brink by creating all that stir…

That first evening, we accompanied Terry & Linda to ‘Rips’, a local pub that has all sorts of brews available plus some doggone good wings! While there we got to see Reg again and meet Kirby, a long-time friend of our tour guide for the next ten days or so. It was then, in that otherwise friendly setting, that the sinister little bomb exploded and things took on a very different complexion!

As we dined and most of us imbibed, Dennis casually mentioned our overnight stay in Fernie… and, he fondly recalled how lovely the Three Sisters were… Terry corrected him by informing him those were not the Three Sisters, as those peaks were actually up in Alberta not too far from Calgary… Uh oh… No, replied Dennis, he was positive he’d seen signs, and the motel lady had even pointed them out to him… Terry was sure of his facts… Dennis was just as sure of his…

Terry didn’t hold Dennis responsible, as he was sure neither of his guests knew the ‘truth’… we’d simply been misled. Later Terry did point out ‘Three Sisters’ in Alberta as we rode by them, including the signs pointing to them (we didn't stop for photos, because we were racing sunset).

Our last day together, we said our farewells in Fernie, as Dennis pointed out the 'BC Sisters’ to Terry plus signs pointing to them! Is it possible there are two sets of Three Sisters, one in each province? Perhaps they’re even cousins…

Or, has one province usurped the name from the other… Perhaps there are some copyright infringement issues here, maybe trademark issues, too… Whatever, it appears Dennis and I have inadvertently tossed a turd into the punchbowl up there and left the party just in time! We sincerely hope this doesn’t keep us from ever receiving another invitation to come visit…

Amusing tale, Bruce. Alberta has their portion of the Rockies and a few other mountains here and there, and those Rockies are absolutely spectacular indeed (although the roads throughout can be a little over-populated during the best riding months). Us folks here in BC do our best to let our Albertan brothers and sisters have their due in this regard, boasting about their mountains, as once you get out of those Rockies, there's  just a whole lotta "as far as the eye can see" kinda views and a lot of "wearing the centre tread off your tires" kinda roads throughout the Province.

As a lifelong BC'er, I'll concede the title of the "original" Three Sisters being the ones next to Canmore Alberta, with the ones near Fernie in BC as the late comers in terms of naming rights. Perhaps this is fitting, with the biggest "Sister" of the Alberta trio being about 480 ft higher than the largest of the BC trio of gals. cooldude
So no, sorry...no real inter-Provincial intrigue or punchbowl contamination as far as this Canuck here is concerned. I will comment though, I'm not sure if your "She's a Keeper" riding partner and I assume avid fisherman knew that as he was gazing at the BC Three Sisters during your stay in Fernie, he was next to one of the if not the Best trout fishing streams anywhere...the mighty Elk River...

WHAT !!! Everybody knows the true "3 Sisters Mountains" are located in Kodiak, Alaska.  tickedoff

I can't believe my Canadian brethren would stoop so low as to commandeer our God given title to the mountains. Clearly some southern boys are trying to stir up some international ill will. Good thing you guys are high tailing it south. (Good story, Bruce)  cooldude

Back when I was young and single, I was glad there were families of sisters all over the place!  coolsmiley  Assuming there's a little bit of friendliness to begin with, a young man's chances are much improved, in a way that's different from when there are two or three unrelated young ladies together.
