Hi folks.

I’ve been cruising this forum and using your tech info for years. I’m not a big poster so never got around to registering.
Anyway, now I really need some help, so I registered and thought I should introduce myself….I’ll ask my tech question in the appropriate place.

So, my name is Ken living in Ottawa…capital of Canada.
In 2005 I bought an American 2003 Standard with 1200 miles on it. Since then my wife and I have done 115,000 km through the USA and Canada..mostly back roads. I have to say that American roads are the BOMB and we have loved every hill and turn that we’ve come across. I honestly can’t see me EVER WANTING to replace this bike with anything! I love the simplicity, the looks and the ride of this wonderful machine and even the attention it gets at every coffee shop we stop at ….and there have been many with the Standard's tank haha.

The only things I have added are a couple of big hard bags, a backrest and a luggage rack…oh and a couple of boards for my wife. I’ve done all my own maintenance except for a couple of rear tire changes that will be the subject of my tech request later. (I once built and flew a 200mph airplane, so I’m pretty handy with a hammer).

I grew up in 60’s/70’s England where a ‘bike was my only source of transport for many years, from BSA, to Honda and Norton. I quit riding during the 80's and 90’s starting again about 2000.

Circumstances with my Valkyrie (rear drive) are causing me to look at some alternative rides if I can’t solve my problem but I can NOT find anything that more than mildly turns me on. Everything has too many bells and whistles, fairings, etc and the thought of losing my beloved Valk just keeps me awake at night…along with flying and playing in a blues band, riding around the next bend is my great love.

I’ll try an post a pic.

Enough of me. Thanks for listening and I'm looking forward to some chat.

Ken

Welcome Ken. Good to see more from Canada, even if you are in ON.  Grin

Always nice to have your location in your profile, makes it easier for others to find you.

Waiting on your Tech post. Don't forget search too, most likely it's already been discussed. Just don't ask which motor oil to us!

Welcome to the forum.  My 2003 standard is very similar to yours.

Hey Ken, welcome from another BC'er! As Gordonv suggests, most everything...certainly on the rear drive...has been covered on the tech page at some point and there is some great info in Shoptalk as well. If you post your isues on the tech page, there are some very helpful and knowledgeable members who are more than willing to offer up their own expereinces and suggestions to help you out.

If you ever point that beauty West, there's an active (albeit rather small) group of us out here that would be pleased to meet ya in person cooldude

Good lookin' guy and great looking bike.  Welcome the Valkryie adulation society.  We do love our Valks!
Lots of info regarding rear end service and help on the Tech Forum.  Add your city, Ottawa, to your profile so we know where you are and you may get in person help.  Surely other forum member near you.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and the tip about the location....now added.

Yeah, I've searched the forum many times over the years and reviewed everything I can about the back end. Some really good info from some really experienced members. It was instrumental in me doing much of my own work (along with the service manual of course).

Sometimes it helps just to talk over a problem, but I don't know a single other Valkyrie rider that I can do that with...looking fwd to doing that here.

BC is very high on my list of places to ride....maybe doing the Alberta Icelands Pkwy on the way there.
First I just have to get my head around the long flat stretches of highway needed to get across Canada.
Maybe I'll take the southern route through Utah haha!

Oh, first I need to fix my bike duh!

I realise (realize) Wink that I'm quoting myself but crazy things happen when you join a m/c forum.....
I just parked my bike outside  a store when ...guess what....another Valkyrie pulled up beside me just to say Hi! Now I know ONE Valkyrie pilot in Ottawa.

Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

Oh, and for the doubters, searching is my friend and I can assure you there will be NO questions about oil. Lips Sealed
