First, it was announced in early June.  https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2019/06/05/amazon-drone-delivery-shopping-giant-unveils-new-prime-air-drone/1358260001/

I made a big order with Amazon last week, and as usual it appeared at the house in multiple packages over five days (I always order free shipping ground with everything).  Always on my front door step as usual (though I've had a few delivered thru USPS to my mailbox in the past).  So I got the last item today, and I'm looking over my order on the Amazon account, and wait a minute, I didn't get one small thing (in an envelope) they say was delivered yesterday.  I look out the window, and even go out and look round.  Nope.

So I come back in and get on my account again and click on that one item for tracking, and it says it was delivered to a secure location, and there is even a little picture.  I have to blow that up a bit to see clearly, and sure enough, it's out in my driveway, in the narrow gravel between landscape and my truck on the driveway.  I go back out, and there it is.

I can't make hide or hare out of the envelope or it's codes, but the account says delivered by Amazon.  So I'm wondering if I got a drone delivery.  And now I'm wondering if I can expect drops on my roof to be considered a safe location.  I guess no one will steal from my roof.  So there's that.

I'm glad it was only a $30 item and impervious to rain.  The dang thing could have blown clear down the street since yesterday.

And if I'm out in my yard and a drone comes in low at me, I'm not gonna like it one bit.

Is this a secure location?

99.999% that wasn't a drone delivery, but just a regular old Amazon delivery, from one of their delivery fleet... Most of our Amazon deliveries come that way now, but being Prime most of ours are delivered same day or next day...

I can't wait for the drone deliveries to get more common though!

By come that way, do you mean out in the yard or driveway?

I am tempted to call and ask.  Not to pitch a big bitch, just to find out.  But more often than not, when I decide to call a big bureaucracy, and hold and transfer and tell the same story 4 times, and get no answer anyway, I wish I hadn't bothered.

CAN you call Amazon? I only correspond with them via messaging, and have found them to be very responsive.

By come that way, I mean "Delivered by Amazon."

They're good about putting them on my porch, tucked away around a corner and hidden from sight, even though they have to come down a flight of stairs from the road level to my front door in order to do so...

Calling them is nearly (or totally) impossible.

But if you navigate around enough to find the right spot, they say they will call you back in a few minutes.

Of course, you're one of those last generation dinosaurs that prefers talking on the phone. I'll go to extreme lengths (As some members here can attest) to avoid talking on the phone. I MUCH prefer typed communications, so much more concise and precise.

Heck, part of the reason I avoided attending Inzane for many years was because you have to call the host hotel instead of just doing an online reservation for your room... (True story...)

Even some of us old dinosaurs prefer text over talk.  cooldude (although my OCD hasn't prevented hotel reservations)

Actually, I usually type inquiries because it creates a record, whereas a phone call never happened.  If I think I need a record, I always type.

And without question, regardless of company or office, the people who answer the written word are smarter than the people who answer the phone.

But if I think I can get an answer to simple question quickly, I prefer to call.

I'm dropping it, unless I get another secure delivery out in the yard.

However, I'm not denying the dinosaur moniker (on anything tech, beyond around 1980).

And as I shave in the mirror, I think I'm looking more like a dinosaur all the time too.

Texting takes way too long and too much effort in my opinion.  Especially with spell checker that makes corrections that change the intent of my message and voice texting, it never ends up saying what I tell it.   May be my fault but, I believe I enunciate fairly clearly.   Maybe it's my Kansas accent, I don't know.   Roll Eyes

I frequently tell folks who want to have some long winded conversation via text to stop cause I'm calling.   I can get more information or give more information in a one minute conversation than via a text that will last half an hour.   At one point I had my cell phone service get rid of the text option.
I got over that but frequently cut text conversations off with a call.   Different strokes for different folks.  Wink

I inquired (Via electronic messaging of course) to see if I could have voice turned off on my phone..... I was unsuccessful...

Speaking of Amazon deliveries most of ours come UPS or USPS but there a a few Amazon trucks in the area, there is local (about a mile from my house)video footage of an Amazon driver (Female) pulling down a long driveway trees on both sides. She gets to the garage side of the house gets out and takes a piss beside her van.  Leaves the package and goes about her way.
I had two packages delivered today both by UPS.

Of course, we (northern VA) are getting HQ2 for Amazon.  Two in Arlington (Crystal City and Pentagon City) and one in Alexandria (Potomac Yard).

Because the entire HQ Federal G, all the beltway bandits, defense contractors, regiments of lobbyists, 30 colleges, and legions of lawyers, just don't provide enough jobs and traffic.

On the upside I may get a quick 50K increase in home value (and taxes.... Yayyy).  crazy2
