I went out this morning and turned the key to start when nothing came on, no lights, no display on the dash (2000) I/S.. the neutral light and the temp. light did come on briefly then went out when the key went to start.  Once the key went fully to start nothing was working.

I checked all the fuses all good, including the main fuse, kill switch on, no headlight, etc.  At first when I switched to aux. with the key the display on the dash came on but seemed to be a mismatch of numbers and letters, then it went out and would not come back on.  Check the battery and all the grounds everything was normal.

Would the neutral light and temp. indicate that there is power going the the ignition switch or would the clutch diode allow them light up briefly? Any suggestions to where I should start looking?

Fast check.  Hook a jumper cable to a non running vehicle.  If if acts normal, may be a bad battery. I would check and clean all connections. Remove and clean. If it starts,  check alternator output.  It should be 14 volts. If battery is bad , replace it.

Try jumping (like stated above) or putting a known good battery first.

I had similar issues with my interstate last year, it ended up being non contact in the kill switch. I cleaned that and it worked fine afterward.
