2000 Valkyrie Trike with less than 5000 miles for $2800

http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2000-Honda-VALKYRIE-96147609/?ZMC=Oodle&BAC-Oodle

If found this looking at the oodle.com adds. Hey it is in Louisville KY which is close to home so, I call the number listed.......
Pleasant lady answers and hasn't a CLUE about a motorcycle for sell but tells me that they have been getting a lot of calls for a suburban and another vehicle the last few weeks........... I thank her for her time and apologize for disturbing her......

I call cycletrader and they have no other number BUT, they put a note on the file for the fellow to contact me......
I also sent an e-mail to the seller asking for information.  Within a few hours I received a very nice e-mail that reads as follows:

The trike is still for sale. It has a clean title, very well maintained, no exterior damages and no mechanical problems. Clean title. I'm asking $2800 for it, non negotiable. I have to sell this trike as fast as I can because in three weeks I will be in Iraq and I think I'll stay there for a while that's why I'm selling it so cheap. Currently I'm in a military base in Pennsylvania and the trike is here with me. I can ship for free within US if you want to buy it.
Let me know what you decide ASAP. The pics speak for themselves, You'll love the trike, I can guarantee you that!

Provides a number of pictures which are MUCH better than the one in the add. Bike has a number of custome graphics, wizard, princess, dragon etc......

Sent a couple follow on e-mails askign some questions about the bike, is it raked, tires, history, etc. phone number to call and talk to him........

An hour or so ago, I received the following:

There's independent rear suspension. the tires are almost new. it has the fork raked. the shipping can be done at no cost for you. we can start a transaction through a shipping and escrow company where i'm already registered. You'll just register too sign in to your account and start a new transaction as a buyer. They act as a third party and will protect us both. I won't get paid til it arrives and you inspect it. Email me back with a shipping name and address if you'd like to buy the valky. blessings, the best of luck and stay safe

Notice there is no phone number...... also no indication where in PA he is located at.

In my last e-mail, I stated the following, "Where is the bike located at physically and give me a number because I have a lot of relatives and family up in PA so I might be able to arrange pick up and save you the exspense and trouble of shipping? Give me a cell number so we can talk." we will see if he responds....

There are a number of red flags here:

-  sale price about ten grand under expected price. right around the expected scam price....
-  Wrong phone number in add
-  Located in a town very distant from location listed in add
-  must sell fast/desperate seller
-  free shipping
-  Have trouble believing someone would take a bike to MOB station with them, especially PA this time of year.......

It just sounds to good to be true....... the other side of that is I will hate myself it it turns out to be true and I let it get away.....

So, has anyone seen this bike in other adds around the country?

This could be interesting.....

Same guy I dealt with a few months ago. Same story, Valk Trike... 3500 bucks.
Said he was at a military base in Alaska and was getting deployed and needed to sell.
I said "Cool, I'm in the military too, I've got friends in Alaska, gimme your address and I'll have someone check it out."

Never heard anything else...

This one just keeps getting better!!!! cooldude

Just received another e-mail, again no phone number, no location, no information just the following message:

In order to start the deal go to the company's web site:
http://i-f-pvt-ltd.co.uk/ and register (it's free). After the registration is complete sign in to your account and start a new transaction as a buyer. If you have any other questions please email me back. All best

While it looks like a legit shipping company, I am sceptical when we are using a company outside the US......... coolsmiley

I sent him an e-mail back saying that the wife is opposed and that I had even tried to convince her that a  friend in the area could handle the money and store it for me to avoid his incurring the shipping costs........ Now, the guy isn't interested in saving the shipping costs.......... That right there is the biggest red flag of all.....

So be on the luck out guys........

Here is mine from last week.  It was for a 2001 Polaris Ranger 6x6, it was advertised with high hours making the price to be a very good deal but not unbelievable like the trike...interesting how the context is similar, no phone nbr and lots of pics provided after the fact. This one was advertised on the ATL Craigslist yet all of a sudden the guy is in AZ and the RUV is in OH.

'Tis a scam, no question. They just keep getting a little better at it.

*******************************
Hello,
   The price is $2650.
This ranger has 1239 hours on it.. it was used by a landscaping company..,it is in excellent condition, runs and drives great,no mechanical problems, all functional and it will need nothing in the near future.
Right now is  sealed at DAS terminal in Toledo,OH ready to be shipped out will take 4-5 days through DAS and it will be free,my previous buyer(his loan did not get approved)already paid for it and DAS didn't want to refund him the shipping fee.
I cannot meet face2face I have a new job in Tucson, AZ I would like to use Autotrader Vehicle Purchase to take care of this deal, smooth and safe. Let me know if you have any other questions, hope i didn't miss anything.
More pictures here: http://picasaweb.google.com/erpechere/2006PolarisRanger6x6?authkey=Gv1sRgCPekyILr_cnZFQ#slideshow
Thank you,Robert Phillips.

This might be the same scab that was scamming the Valkyrie on CL.  Definitely smells the same.

Buyer beware!!!

Heads up, I had a buddy sellin a 2000 something Yamaha Roadstar for 9XXX bucks on Craigslist and other classifieds.

He had some dude call him, talk to him, and said he wanted to buy it, but the guy was in Michigan (I'm in Missouri). He said he'd

pay for the shipping and send a certified check before the bike left his garage.

Anyway, he gets a certified check for 9XXX bucks, but the "from" line has the name of some Engineering company on it. Anyway, he

goes to the bank, ask them to check into it and the check clears, but when the bank called the issuing company, they had NO IDEA

what was going on.

Bottom line, it was all a scam. My buddy woulda lost the money as soon as the bank realized what happened.
