I just saw this in today's Lewiston paper. I will be riding over for the fly-in. Of course I'll be taking the long way around to get there.

Wings of Freedom Tour flying into Auburn airport

AUBURN — Participating in the Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour, B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine,” B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft,” B-25 Mitchell “Tondelayo” bombers, P-51 Mustang “Toulouse Nuts” and P-40 Warhawk “Jaws” fighters, will fly into the Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, for a visit through Friday, Sept. 27.

This is a rare opportunity to visit, explore and learn more about the unique and rare treasures of World War II aviation history. The planes will be on display until they depart after operations on Sept. 27. Hours of ground tours and display are 2 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25; 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26; and 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 27.

Visitors may also experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take a 30-minute flight aboard the rare aircraft. The 30-minute flight experiences are normally scheduled before and after the ground tour times. Flights on either the B-17 or B-24 are $450 per person. Get some “stick time” in the world’s greatest fighters! P-51 flight training is $2,400 for a half hour and $3,400 for a full hour. P-40 Warhawk flight training is $2,200 for a half hour and $3,200 for a full hour. B-25 flights are $400 per person. For reservations and information on flight experiences call 800-568-8924.

The tour travels the nation as a flying tribute to the flight crews who flew them, the ground crews who maintained them, the workers who built them, the soldiers, sailors and airmen they helped protect, and the citizens and families who share the freedom that they helped preserve. Literally and figuratively.  I was standing on the grass against the tarmac.  B24 (I think) swung in and the wing went right over our heads and prop wash across our faces.

I posted this on the gen board a few weeks ago

Had seen a b17 fly over my house maybe 5 yrs ago and followed it to Westchester airport where I got to walk thru a b17 and b24  It was the same plane Nine o nine

Over labor day weekend my brother and I flew in the b17 out of cape may naval air station and museum  It was his birthday present from me as he turned 60

This is the view from inside the plexiglass of the twin 50's under the cockpit   You can see the top secret bomb sight that the bombadier used from that position That is Wildwood NJ passing beneath us

A terrific experience and the smoothest flight and landing I ever had  The noise is awesome when the 4 radial 9cyl 1200 hp  engines spool up   Ive got videos of take off and in flight   5 stars worth every penny of the 450 per person

Last pic is Mike and I standing with our heads out the top hatch
Since we were going close to 200mph it was a bit windy so I took off my glasses

Sad to say the B-17 crashed today in Hartford.

From the local paper.......
"We can confirm that there was an accident involving a Collings Foundation World War II aircraft this morning at Bradley Airport," a post on the airport's Facebook page said on Wednesday.

The crash of the B-17 bomber, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. local time as the plane was attempting to land at the airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, killed at least two people and sent at least three others to a local hospital, the Hartford Courant newspaper reported
