The 205 ct is out for delivery, so backerds me I measure the gap and seems right around 12mm. I’d rather err on the side of safety than go to the trouble of mounting and find out later. Anyone have a similar measurement with the 180 mc tire and still have swing arm clearance once the 205 is mounted? Thx!

I have had several different 205/60's, 205/65's, 195/60's, and now 195/65. They have all cleared the swing arm.

I doubt anyone will have data on that, as there is usually no reason to measure the gap with a stock-sized motorcycle tire.  I will say that problems with a 205/60-16 tire touching the swing arm are not common.  The gap is typically very small, but sufficient.

205-65-16 currently mounted on Phatt Ghurl. I can get three (3) credit card thicknesses between the side wall and the swing arm. And NO issues too well over the ton. Other than the ATT most of my D/S selections have been 205-65-16. And I'm one Rider that intends to NOT go back to a M/C specific rear tire. RIDE SAFE

same size tire here, never go back, and Zero problem with swing arm clearance.

A 205 60 fits, when mounted on the wheel and aired up (with one or two credit cards of space to spare to the swingarm).  That seems awful close, but it doesn't rub (though it will likely rub the cages if you don't remove them).

However, when my first 205 60 first arrived (after removing the rear wheel), I tried to shove it up there by itself, and it didn't fit.  Believe it or not, it gets a bit smaller mounted and aired up.

I think you'll be fine. It's probably a good idea to do the nutcage mod, if you haven't done it yet. Also, it has been my experience that experimenting with the correct tire pressure is very important with the car tires.

I second that about correct pressure.
Just went through this and amazing how much one pound of pressure plus or minus can make.

Well, experimenting with air pressure is for the ride, not the fit.

Our group has mounted Yokohama Avid Envigor 205/60R16 on (2) different Valks.  They fit kinda cozy but still fine in each case.

I tried a 205 CT, think it was a Finish brand. It would not fit. Just mentioning that there may be other brands that will be just that little bit wider, as to not work.  Apparently most do, though. I posted the brand back a month or two ago in another CT post. Should find it further down the list in this forum. I ended up just going with the 195. Lots of room.

Just curious....there is talk of "nutcage mod" but no pictures or further explanation. I just ordered a Michelin CROSSCLIMATE + in 205/60 R16 96V XL tire for my 2000 Valk. It would be informative to know what the mod is. I am new to the Valkyrie world. I had a Riken Raptor on my Triumph Rocket 3 and loved it.

Update: the minor clearance issue at the right frame to fender bolt. ( forward of the nutcage mod) I’ve removed the grab bar and I could see no way to move the fender further out for clearance other than filing the frame extension the bolt runs through. So on the inside I’m filing it down gradually, an 1/8 in. Removal will be enough to pull the fender out, and ensure washers are used on the bolt on the outside so the bolt doesn’t intrude into the wheel well. Hope to be done this weekend. And lining up the holes on the fender, frame and grab bar has been a challenge.  Angry

It sticks like glue and clears just fine. Very happy with upgrade. While I had it apart I clicked the shocks up to number 4.  smitten
