Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: September 29, 2019, 03:28:54 AM »

Took a ride across The Dragon yesterday to go to The Phillips Motel to check things out for our Fall Color Ride. Does anyone know who had house #205 last year  ? This house has some structural issues the new owner we met last year claims " SOME " of it is still useable  ???

201 Dosher
202 Boyer
203 Stratneier
204 Sells
207 Mitch
209 Duffy
All the above are good …. After looking at the list he gave me no house #208  Undecided   I'll call today and check that out.

The new owner is spending some money on the old place he claims many rooms have new beds ,paint, floors, etc.

Dude is from California that might explain why he would put a wooden dragon right beside the firepit   Shocked  ( I've sent a text to those that show up on Thursday asking them not to burn the dragon down  until we all can watch  Cheesy   ).
I also reminded him he looked me in the eye last year before the ride and shuck my hand claimin' he would get us some firewood and he didn't. Well he did it again he said he would get some I told him I'd pass the hat and get his money back.

As of right now we are SOLD OUT at ground zero however I might have one maybe two open up they are letting me know asap.

Have them roll out the hoses before hand.  Cheesy

Seriously.

I hope everyone treats the dragon and the property in general the same way they would their bike and dog. With care and respect.

Great picture . We was going to cross Cherohala yesterday but you could see the pouring rain on the mountain. That year this picture was made is the less water I've ever seen at Bald River Falls.
Get that BFGPS to work and plan us a good ride I'll follow you  cooldude

take us to Reliance (never been) and then maybe to Jim's Smokin' Q...
I haven't tried to lay out such a route, it might be a long day...

House 205 - Trish and I with Tom and Joyce have stayed here the last several years and we have had a 3rd couple.  Stephanie and Jim Graham are scheduled to stay with us this year.  We will contact the Motel and discuss the issues with him.  Hopefully it is usable.  Hate to miss a year.  This is one of our favorite rides/gatherings each year.

To get to Reliance ( Greasy Creek ) in a timely matter would be crossing Cherohala first thing in the morning . I think that ride is very doable with a stop at the BBQ.

Mike, I ride down to Reliance quite often. I have several great routes that include back roads. All with pretty good pavement.

What I was thinking is taking the dragon over to Happy Valley Rd and up to Top of the World Tn. From there come down down through Butterfly Gap and across Brickmill rd [rt 336] to 411. Take 411 south to RT360 and over to Tellico Plains. We can honk at my horses and donkeys when we go by my house. In Tellico we can stop and get gas. From there we take 68 south about 3 miles to Steer Creek rd. Make a right on Steer Creek and take that to 315. Take 315 to just before the bridge to reliance , hang a left and go over to the Hiawassee Rec area and visit the walking bridge to the power plant. Then get back onto 315 and go across the bridge to RT30 hang a left and take that all the way down to 64 and the Ocoee River. There are several options from there. You can take 64/19 over to Andrews NC and back to Robbinsville, or go to Benton Falls or head back to Tellico via 68. In Tellico there are several places to eat. My favorite is the new Ironworks Grill right on the Skyway across from the Harley trinket ship and right on the river. From there back over the skyway to Robbinsville. Approximately 220-240 miles total. Just a thought.

Uhhh, you left out Jim's Smokin' Q
It's in Blairsville, GA.
https://jimssmokinque.com/

I don't suspect you can do Top of the World, Tn. and Blairsville, Ga. in the same day with the whole crew in tow, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Like Joey said, it would pretty much hafta be Cherohala first thing in the morn to make Reliance and Blairsville. I'd take my heated gear Cool

Got to agree with Whiskey Man on this to do Greasy Creek and hit Jim's Smokin' Q then Cherohala is a must  or take 129 all the way to 411 and that way sucks . Just so much time in the day and the silly ass time change will be in place as well with it getting dark earlier.

We went here last night... we've been going here since they opened in 1991... they're 25 miles
out of the mountains on 178, which is as good a road as The Dragon in the mountains, and still
mostly a country road after that...

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g54316-d841426-Reviews-Circle_M_BBQ-Liberty_South_Carolina.html

South Carolina low-country style vinegar based barbeque, everything there is AWESOME. Marion (the owner)
might retire in a year or two, he sat with us and told us a bunch of stories last night... it is good to have
access to more than one kind of BBQ  cooldude ...

Dont be surprised if. Ighead shows up just to see the fire Evil but if I dont make it like I said have a large time.

Hey everybody!

Looking forward to Smokin' Joe's Fall Color Ride as always.  I have three of us in 209 and one in 115. It will be great to see everyone.

With this HOT summer through basically yesterday, 10/4, I'm guessing the fall colors may be late, but the good times will be on schedule.

I'll be on my Road Glide as Thumper's Charlene is in a bit of disrepair right now. Carbs finally puked the ethanol back  at me! Needs a cleaning and all new rubber parts.  Is Big BF still traveling and doing his thing? I need his contact info if he is.

See you in Robbinsville
