Ding, ding, ding! It's official!!

IZXX will be in Asheville, NC.
Dates June 7-12 (early bird cookout is Sun, June 7)

And for those who watch such things, the order of correct guesses was:

1.  Serk correctly guessed Asheville and Ground Zero

2.  T.P. correctly guessed the bridge in Asheville, but did not identify GZ.

3.  Disco correctly guessed Asheville and GZ.

4.  Mark T correctly guessed Asheville, but not GZ.  In fairness, we did look at Crowne Plaza.

Kinda thought so after I saw the "Connie" bridge, was torn between that and Charlotte but pleased with Asheville. I already have a 3k mile tour laid out, that mileage is direct to each location I want to visit before and after the rally, eventually taking me out to Ft. Worth to visit some friends in both Texas and Oklahoma. The 3k doesn't show any local riding at each destination. Tentative plans include taking the ferry across Lake Michigan to visit a cousin in Midland, MI. Then down to the Lansing area to former daughter-in-law of Rita's, then to Asheville. Afterward I want to visit long time friends in Franklin, NC then to Vas, NC in eastern NC, then Orlando, FL & Ft. Worth, TX. I'd love to do some riding in the Rockies and if I get my passport might even tour on up to Banff and Lake Louise in Canada, retracing some of our honeymoon in 1994 and spreading some of Rita's ashes along the way.

Sorry for the rambling, just the thought of being able to be on the move again in connection with InZane just got my wanderlust bubbling again. Should be an interesting summer, Lord willing I'll be out there.  cooldude

I'm thinkin, might trailer George and the Magna this time, and ride George around there.  Of course he's not as comfy for longer rides, so I might hafta look at the riding there to decide for sure.  Or maybe I can fit Jade in the trailer too!  That'll be tight!

This event was one of the nicest things I've ever witnessed.  The work and love put in by so many, and the loving donations made by so many was absolutely wonderful.  I remember cutting a ride a little short and high-tailing back to the hotel so we could be back in time for the evening's activities.  I had the Queen on the back and I swear Punisher had us up in the 90's on some stretches of the highway.  The faster we went the tighter she squeezed!  And then I cried like a baby watching the next hour or so unfold.

still sorry i missed that day. i remember taking "the ride to Inzane" ride with smokin joe. i forget where we met up at on Friday, but he had an awesome ride planned on Saturday and we ended up at the blue ridge motor lodge Saturday night. the motel had food for us too! I remember Eric riding his goldwing with the plastic fender into the pool (it was filled with stone) and had a struggle to get it out. Sunday we were riding to Asheville, but work called and i had to head home.  tickedoff

Sandra and I did our Deal's Gap daytrip that day, and unfortunately got back to ground zero just after the presentation of ALI.  The two early bird tent meals I remember were in Asheville and Spearfish, and I think the outdoor aspect of the meal made it more festive than if it were inside.  I understand that it might complicate things logistically, however.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Knoxville at the last Honda Hoot.  I mistakenly test drove a Rocket 3 and as soon as we got home I bought a new one.  We stayed at a free condo in Pigeon Forge and took a day to ride around Asheville.  We liked the area so much we talked about retiring there.

Enjoyed riding the Dragon, cherahola hwy, and around the lakes to visit Watts Bar nuclear plant. My avatar is from Killboy during that trip from Wisconsin to the Hoot.

Good choice...lots of great riding.

Hello from NC.  When you get to Asheville, a ride to the top of Mt. Mitchell is a must-do.  It is the highest mountain East of the Mississippi.  You have to keep your schedule open.  More often than not, you get to the top (6683 feet) and you're in a Smoky Mountain cloud.  When the weather is clear, the view is magnificent.

I have never found the top of that mountain to be real crowded.  Yes, there will be other folks.  Downtown Asheville is known for boutiques, galleries and coffee shops, and tourists fill those places.  Mount Mitchell offers a break from the congestion.

I’ll second Pluggy, it’s a great ride up. Stopped up there on the way to see the eclipse with Whiskey in 17. Crystal clear that morning, & a bit chilly,  but well worth it!

Pluggy, or anyone else who can answer:

My wife and I did Mount Mitchell during InZane XIV, and I remember parts of the road up Mount Mitchell being lined with trees or bushes that had large pink (or perhaps red?) blossoms on them.  What type of tree/bush is that?

Also, look at pictures of rhododendron.  There are places in those mountains where they thrive and grow  tall.  The variety of plants changes as you go up a mountain.  That's what initially led Rev. Dr. Mitchell to conclude that the mountain, later named after him, was the tallest.

Rhododendron grow like weeds around here. They can get YUGE....There are several different colors. Blue, pink, red are the most common. I'm told the color depends on the acidity of the soil, but not sure on that....
