Can the gearing from a 1500 GoldWing final Drive be removed and put in the case for a Valkyrie Drive?

If you can find a good 1500 wing final, you can remove the ring gear from
the wing and the ring gear from the Valkyrie... then (I got the shop at NAPA
to do this part for me) press the splines out of each ring gear and press the
good ones back into your Valkyrie ring gear...

Might be a dumb question but....
I believe that the splines are tapered. How do you know which way to push them out/in?

Why are you changing gearing? Is your drive worn out? Or do you think the final drive is geared differently?

A friend has a Valkyrie that he thinks the final drive may have a problem, and I have a new unit from a 1500 Wing.

Don't they still sell the splines?  Press out the old and insert the new?

It's not hard to find a good wing final for $35 or $50... a new ring gear is $250. You'd
either have to "butcher up" the new ring gear by robbing the splines from it, or
install it using skill similar (surly not as hard) to rebuilding an automatic
transmission (shims and stuff)... RickyD rebuilt his with all new...
