I'm pretty sure if one of my family was murdered I would be filled with hate, rage, and thoughts of revenge. This young man has my admiration.

Wow!  I hope I'm never in that position.  I suppose the circumstances of how and why it happened may have an influence on your reaction, and I'm not familiar with the circumstances surrounding this case.  Even the Judge was in tears.

That was a powerful video, and I agree I don't think I would have the strength and conviction of that young man.

Every now and then we have a substitute preacher at church... a few
weeks ago there was this awesome guy, a Marine and now a local
policeman. He had a lot to say about dealing with "those people".

Kind of like performers getting past stage fright by imagining the
people in the audience are all just wearing underwear... when he has to
deal with angry yelling violent people he tries to see them not
as people but as souls, each one of them loved by God...

He still has to take care of bidness, but he avoids some of the being
filled with hate, rage, and thoughts of revenge while doing it.

Romans 12:19

19Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” 20On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.”…

in todays world would it profit a man to avenge the harm one did to a family member whereas the law would put that man in jail and thereby that man greatly harms ALL members of his family?

His actions also helped avert a nasty riot. The BLM thugs were already starting to gather and threatening violence because she had such a "light" prison sentence, his actions helped shame them into standing down.

For those not familiar with the situation here's the tl;dr - Dallas cop gets off a 14 hour shift, goes home, accidentally walks into the wrong apartment, sees someone standing in what she believes to be her apartment, tells him to stand down, the guy understandably doesn't comply, he's in his own home, so she shoots and kills him.

IMHO, should have been manslaughter, not murder conviction but it is what it is.

I suspected this was the cop in the wrong apt. case, but wasn't sure.  Thanks for confirming it.

I usually get bashed from this, but again a case of really how cops today are being trained. why didn't she retreat? why did she have to do what she did? she was at the door go back out? guard the door while she calls for backup. too many cases today of cops not retreating and just pulling the trigger, this has to be their training?  I blame all of this on how they are being trained, but I could be wrong.

I understand the scripture quoted, but am having trouble understanding what you wrote.  Would you mind rephrasing it?

https://abcnews.go.com/US/jury-deciding-sentence-police-officer-amber-guyger-wrong/story?id=66002182

But Jean's 18-year-old brother, Brandt Jean, took the witness stand and spoke to Guyger, saying, "I know if you go to God and ask him, he will forgive you."

"I love you just like anyone else and I'm not going to hope you rot and die," Brandt Jean told Guyger. "I personally want the best for you. I wasn't going to say this in front of my family, I don't even want you to go to jail. I want the best for you because I know that's exactly what Botham would want for you. Give your life to Christ. I think giving your life to Christ is the best thing Botham would want for you."

Brandt Jean then asked Kemp if he could give Guyger a hug, a request the judge granted.

He stepped off the witness stand and met Guyger in front of the judge's bench and embraced as Guyger broke into tears.

Jean's mother, Allison, said at a post-sentencing news conference that while the death of her son "changed my life, changed my family's life," she will accept the jury's decision and try to move on.

"That 10 years in prison is for her (Guyger) to reflect and to change her life," Allison Jean said. "But there is much more to be done by the city of Dallas. The corruption we saw during this trial must stop. The city of Dallas needs to clean up inside. The Dallas Police Department has a lot of laundry to do. The Texas Rangers need to get on board."

She noted the contamination of the crime scene after her son was killed and said the poor use of the training Guyger received as a police officer "should never happen again."

"His (Botham's) privacy was violated. She intruded on him and that was not enough. She killed him," Allison Jean said. "If Amber Guyger was trained not to shoot in the heart, my son would be standing here today."
