So........... I’m on the security team at church. So on Wed night I’m there making sure everything is as it should be. Well tonight was especially quiet, not much going on. The kids were all in their classes and the adult service was under way. We have certain times we walk around the perimeter and check or lock or unlock doors. Between those times we do a few minutes of standing around talking.

Well.  A couple young guys ( high 20’s). We’re showing off about how many push-ups  they could do. Which was not very much, it was pitiful.

These guys needed a lesson in humility. It was so fun. It couldn’t have gone better if it was planned.

After watching Their display. I walked over and told the young guy that I had been in several push-up contests and never lost and never had to do more than one. Now this worked up their curiosity so I had to explain. Any time someone challenged me I got to choose the style of push-ups. My style of choice was Superman push-ups. There was no way they were going to squeeze one out no matter how hard they tried. It was great.

Then the big question. So can you do it? Now I’m like well I’m not sure. I’m 60 and haven’t tried one in over Ten years. So I took off my vest and other equipment. And got down in the position. There was a brief moment of uncertainty but muscle memory took over and popped a Superman and iron cross push-up like nothing. The one younger guy said “ we’ve just got our butts kicked by a 60 year old “

That was precious....

Superman pushup.  Is that the one Jack Palance did on the Oscars way back, I think he was well in his 70's.  I think Kirk Douglas did that once on Carson.

Those were not Superman push-ups. Not even close. Superman push-ups are toes and fingertips arms fully stretched out forward.

This is close. If he would just get up on his fingertips it would be perfect

OK, I guess.  Didn't know the definition.  Even so the one-armed ain't easy and I couldn't do it.  Especially with my rotator cuffs damaged from various accidents.  Never mind the "superman" version.

I used to do what I called a star push up.

Form an X with arms and legs. Then raise up.

Yep. That’s what I called the iron cross. That’s even harder than Superman push-ups. I’m impressed Britman. Can you still do them?

Chris, good show!  cooldude  I used to get into contests with one arm pushups and one legged squats. Key words there: "used to" but usually came out on top. Now into my 80s I have to concentrate on push-aways rather push-ups....push away from the table. In years gone by, the spring and strengtin in my legs were quite good, probably what helped me bust the 10 second mark in the 100yd. dash. Also was able to do a standing jump and grab the baskeball hoop...I'm only 5'10". Got a few bucks with that bet as well but now I can still hold my own in the gym, not too many women can outlift me.  Roll Eyes Grin
