Just North of Seattle

« on: October 13, 2019, 05:47:18 AM »

After healing from my 2 recent heart surgeries & the need for a Ride.

I left the house with the green bike with-out a destination just before sun-up and was treated to an awesome pink sunrise.

Temps were in the high 30's... a little brisk but, I was thankful for my Gerbing jacket, baker air wings & wind-wings covering my hands.

The front tire was drawn to the east by this incredible view. I rode up  the north cascades hwy. the fall colors were in perfect form & the leaves were still mainly attached to their branches.

Once I turned on hwy 20 at Rockport there was a light westerly wind flow which momentarily increased the temps to the low 50's. although that was short lived.

Between Rockport & Newhalem I noticed a lot of bald eagles standing in the river waiting for a fish to swim by.

When I hit Newhalem & started to climb.. my thoughts were on all the incredible rides I've taken on this awesome hwy... & thinking how great it is to be alive.

The road was dry & I kicked it up a bit thru some of my favorite twisties  while keeping my eye on the road base.
Just past Ross Dam there must have been a fog layer overnight, the road turned wet & it continued this way all the way to the bottom of the valley... but it was dry going up the other side toward Early Pass.

At Rainy Pass there was snow on the shoulders from last week's snow storm & the temps dropped to the low 30's... just passed Rainy pass the road changed to very wet with evidence of a recent sand truck. I decided not temp fate & pulled into the rest area just before the climb to Washington Pass.

While there, I had a cup coffee while sitting on the bike letting the Gerbing Jacket warm me up.

The return trip was just as incredible...
I logged in approx. 240 miles.

A Great Day out for a man with just his thoughts.

Nice writeup. I had a similar, albeit quite a bit shorter solo ride up here on Friday . You are bang on ....there's just something about hitting the road solo, especially on a nice crisp Fall day where it's just you, your bike,  and your own thoughts.  Best medicine one can prescribe for themselves cooldude
