Hi folks,
I'm about to pull the trigger on a Valk diff and would like opinion on the state of the splines.
I would rate these as good to very good (but obviously not perfect). Can anyone see any reason why not.

Also, I believe that all Valk F6C years have the same pumpkin, if someone could confirm this it would be much appreciated.

Ken

I wouldn’t hesitate as long as the mated flange comes with cooldude

+1

As to the pumpkins. The only difference I know of is the 01-03’s had polished and clear coated ones.

Thanks Gents.
I just bought it. Unfortunately not including the hub/flange. Fortunately I have an almost brand new one of those on the shelf.

Just make sure you use good grease and the proper sequence putting it back together. Mismatched flange is not ideal but those teeth look good enough to afford any initial wear to become a matched set

This one is going on my spares shelf. I couldn't pass up the deal and these things are getting hard to find.
I've already replaced my diff once as a result of a repair shop changing a tire 3000 miles from home and putting totally the wrong grease on. When I got it home the whole thing was practically dry and well worn. Probably didn't even reassemble it properly. I learned my lesson that day...never trust anyone else with my 'bike!.

Thanks again to all who chipped in with opinions.

You do know that you can use the splines out of a 1500 Goldwing pumpkin in the 1500 Valks.

You just have to take apart the pumpkin on the wing, take out the final gear and press out the center where the spline are.  The spline cup can be separated.  Press the center out of you final gear and press in the wings.  It is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a Valkyrie pumpkin.  1500 wing pumpkins go for cheap.

I did this a number of years ago.

A brand new final gear is only $250 usd from Babbits.

Yup, thanks bscrive, I am well aware of that. In fact I was planning on doing it but getting one in Canada was WAY too expensive and getting one shipped from the US was just the same after I include shipping. Plus, I don't have easy access to a press or anyone that has one around here.
And if you change the ring gear, you are now messing around with shims.
I wasn't looking for this one, i just came across a local ad and believe me, the price I got it for was really a deal, so it'll be my good spare.
I might actually have a go at the spline swap at some point if I come across a 1500 drive really cheap (I have a really well worn final drive as well).
I plan on riding this thing for ANOTHER 14 years Smiley

Gizmo,

Did you know that there is a place in Ogdensburg called MyUSAddress where you can send packages to.  The charge $6cdn/parcel up to 50lbs.  I have been using them for years.  They are even open Sat & Sun.   When you get enough stuff there.  Take a ride and get the stuff.  They will hold your packages for up to a year for $6.
I have even purchased a couple of motorcycles in the US using them.  When you come across the border just let the CBSA know how much and they only charge you the GST.  I usually just take a quick hop over and back.  MyUSAddress will even give you a ticked for the toll booth for every third package.

Thanks bscrive. I've used them a couple of times. Good service.
Just noticed your location AND your icon.
Wow, that 2014 Valk looks sooooo good with the hard bags. Almost changed my mind about getting one.
I nearly went for a red one last year, but changed my mind 'cos black is BEST.
Were did you get the bags? Mine came from China!!

They are off a 1999 Valk Interstate.  I got them off eBay for $700usd.  I made the brackets.
