If you have Garmin GPS's , time to update maps. 2020.30 is now available, also there is a time zone SW update.

Thanks Scooper.  They were really slow coming out with 2020.20.  I was checking them semi-weekly as they were way overdue, the previous 2020.10 I downloaded on 02/28, while 2020.20 wasn't available until the weekend of Sept 28.  Now the next one a month later?  Inconsistent.  I wasn't going to check again for months.  Pretty sure updates for these portable models are low priority - high dollar avionic and nautical and factory installed cage units get the juice.  But then, paraphrasing Shania, they don't impress me much.  Especially after they EOL'd Mapsource, a good intuitive map manager albeit with memory leaks, and replaced it with that asinine Basecamp - USELESS.  And their HORRIBLE user interface for EVERYTHING support, including this task of updating maps. How anybody uses it successfully who isn't a software engineer or a 13 yr old kid, I don't know. Not to mention they redefined what "lifetime" means on their "lifetime updates".  They even named my unit, "Zumo 665LM, NA" which is defined as "Zumo 665Lifetime Maps, North America"  Then buried on thier web page, that means "Lifetime" until they discontinue it, or you stop downloading regular updates.  Then they are off the hook. I wonder how the courts would interpret that, on a class action lawsuit.  Of course, whoever has the most money wins in the courts.  Blind justice my eye. Their product guarantees aren't much better.

I've gone through like seven Garmin units, been a heavy user since before "Selective Availability" was turned off in May 2000.

Now the idiots have grown the update map to 3.34Gb.  Almost as big as the total internal memory of the 665 ZUMO and bigger than the space left on my 16Gb SD card.  I don't believe this unit supports a bigger card but I'll give it a smoke test.

WHAT A SHITTY SOFTWARE SHOP!!!!  I can tell from external observation, that I am SO GLAD I was never an engineer there!

I've got a Nuvi 50 LM that still updates (albiet it HAS to have an SD card to have space for it), and my Nuvi 2597 is close to needing a SD card, but my DriveSmart 51 and Zumo 396 still fit in their 16 GB internal with no issues. WHich is a good thing on the Zumo - I didn't have any luck getting either of them to see the SD card, then decided to heck with it - if the updates get so big that I need all that , it will be time for a replacement anyway.

Yes - BASECAMP is a POS of software - it tries to be everything to everybody, and succeeds at none of them very well. For road trips, if I want to gen a trip file, I use Harley Davidson's trip planner - it will gen a .gpx file that you can copy
to the appropriate folder. Or, use some other website, and enter the trip / waypoints in the tripplanner of the GPS itself.

Garmin Express is not too bad for updating the maps / sw. Just be patient on it activating your GPS for updates.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 255w and all I can get is to about 65% and get error EX045. guess it is too old to update.

I updated my 660 and 665 yesterday.  Had some issues with the 665 which appeared to be related to some audible book files on the SD card.  Now, I have 2020.30 lower 49 states on the Garmin and CA on the SD card.  Install was make using Garmin Express and then MapInstall.

Site for additional information if you are interested.

If you can use an SD card, get an 8-32 GB microSD card and try again. If it doesn't work with that - it's time to buy a newer GPS - if you want a Garmin I'd suggest a DriveSmart or DriveAssist to replace your Nuvi 255W . The refurbs will have a 90 day warranty, and new ones get 1 year.

You can go to at least 32 GB, formatted as FAT32.

I love my BFGPS (any general purpose phone or tablet with a gps chip and internal storage can be one) with opensource
openstreetmap data that is regularly updated, mostly accurate, totally off-line and free...
