Another weekend full of memories (Just Serk rambling again)

Just another "Serk rambling about stuff" post, skip if that's not your thing, no worries...

Gorgeous weather this weekend here in The Republic, so I messaged my dad and asked if he'd like to go out to my land with me and the boys and teach 'em some marksmanship skills.... And dispose of some leftover Halloween pumpkins. He loved the idea, so off we went...

WONDERFUL day of teaching my boys safety, marksmanship, our heritage and why it's worth defending. (The girl of the triplets btw was invited, but she elected to go with Mommy to the drop zone for the day, and the elder spawn was off doing teenage things, but was invited too.)

Brian Jr. was emphatic he wanted to shoot a revolver, because he likes those in Fortnite. So I packed up one of my single action .22 revolvers, as well as the OLD .38 revolver my dad bought before I was born.

Also brought along each of the boys' .22 rifles, suppressors for each, and my .50 Beowulf that I'd been tinkering with, wanted to see if the tinkering had resolved the FTF issues it was having. (Mostly did.)

Brian Jr's very first time to squeeze the trigger on a revolver, he scored a direct hit, he was SO proud!





Blake enjoyed shooting the .22 revolver as well, although the pumpkin survived his shots, for now.....

LOVE that my kids get to spend so much time with their grandpa.... And yes, I know at my age I'm truly blessed to still have him around!



Blake definitely takes after his father's hair style choices..... (Which makes my mom insaner.....)



For those that are curious, outside of the areas I've cleared out for camping or shooting or driving to or from those areas, this is what most of my land looks like:



Once the kids are out of school (Another 10 years. Ugh) and fast enough Internet is available, our plan is to flip off the city and build a house out there... I can't wait!

So that was Saturday..... Sunday we mostly lounged around the house, but two Valk related tidbits:

I sent Kali to get the Valk Standard inspected. She pulled up to the shop and the guy says "That's uh, a pretty big bike for uh, someone of your uh, size"

Not to get all woke, but seeing as she's 6'2", I think what he meant was "A girl? On a bike like that?" But he was impressed, not condescending so we'll take it as a positive.

I also upgraded the headlights on my Interstate to LED, so I had to take an after dark ride to test 'em out. Wow..... WAY better! Hope I don't piss folks off in front of me TOO much, but so much better than the (High quality) non-LED bulbs I had in there previously!

Once again, sorry to make this place basically my personal blog, hope ya'll like going along on my adventures, Valk related or just life related..... Hope ya'll enjoyed your weekends and are getting the most outta this life as you can!

Rookies of any age often get excited and like to turn around or to the side and point things at other people.

I once told a buddy's wife she would forget and point the shotgun at me.  (was teaching buddy and his wife).  She swore she wouldn't.  She got up to the shooting line, and I snuck right up behind her.  Sure as hell, as soon as the 12 gauge goes off and gives her the big kick, she yells and swings it back around where we were, except I caught the barrel in my hand.

What did I tell you?

Well crap, I'm sorry.

The fact they are single shots (or a pump shotgun) are irrelevant.  We don't point guns at people, unless they've got it coming.

Yup, the seating arrangement was very intentional for that very reason. And yes, we did have to grab barrels that were being swung around a few times, but they quickly got the message....

Lot easier when you can have the student sitting in your lap!

For the picture the firearm had just had it's empties removed, and the hammer was at half-rooster so I could rotate the cylinder to remove the empties...

(The other weird thing, being relatively new, that particular single action revolver has an actual safety on it... A revolver with a safety.... What will government mandate next?!?!?!)

that is some pretty cool pics.  Like father, like son, like sons.....  it all runs in the family.

I know you know your gun safety, just be EXTRA EXTRA careful accidents do happen especially with how young they are getting excited so easily loosing track of where the barrel is pointed. 

Love your land excellent place for hogs and deer to hide and if not careful, to loose or at the very least misplace some kids in the process...

I can remember as a kid going out to the bush and shooting off my .22.  I would be gone all day having fun.  Today, if some kid did that the swat team would be called and the kid put in jail for terrorism and the parents arrested for child endangerment.  Pretty sad how things have come along.

The very first firearm I ever fired (about 6) was my uncle's original Pennsylvania (not Kentucky) hand-made long rifle from the early 1800's.  It was probably .45 caliber, and a flintlock.  

I was too little/weak to hold it up, and I had to hold the stock under my arm (too long to shoulder), and uncle held up the end of the barrel in the general direction of a pie plate on a post 20 feet away or so.

I was squinting my eye down the barrel to the bead on the end, and then grandad realized I had no eye protection so he whipped off his think bifocals and stuck them on my face, and then I couldn't see the target at all.

I jerked the trigger anyway, missed the plate, loved the violent explosion, kick and noise.  But complained about grandad's eyeglasses.  

They let me have a 2d shot with some clear eye protection and I knocked the plate off the pole. Yeehaw, I was hooked for life.

My mom and uncle (younger brother) were the only surviving family on that side, and he asked her if she wanting anything of his when he passed and she said only that flintlock rifle (to give to me), and he promised it to her.  But when he died intestate (no will), his kids didn't give it to her.

So it goes.



The first handgun I ever fired was dad's Colt hammerless 1908 Vest pocket model .25acp (the only thing he got of his dad's), and he gave that to me years ago.  That grandad carried it daily working many years operating heavy equipment in Pittsburgh steel mills, and died two weeks before I was born in 1953.

It's not much of a man-stopper but it's a nice piece of history, and works perfectly.

My mother was a shooter. I had a lot of cups etc she won (lost in the house fire  )

At school I was in the Airforce cadets and learnt to strip and shoot a Lee Enfield 303.
