been looking at 2 in 1's in size 11-14 inch.  Want 4GB RAM and at least 64gb hard drive (prefer 128 but pretty sure 64 will do for a long, long while probably die before use up 64gb the way computers are made nowadays NOT to last).

been comparing chromebooks as well such as samsung 10 inch tablets are cheaper like under 200 bucks, but doubt will do the job long term?

I am not sure, but chromebooks are not microsoft based right so that might be a good thing for less hackers and issues running?

ideas?  suggestions?

I won't get into specific models, I haven't been following them but yes, Chromebooks run Chrome (The web browser) basically as their OS....

(Technically, there's Linux under the hood, but it's presented to the end user as basically the Chrome browser as the OS.)

For basic tasks they're quite effective. I've got one I take on motorcycle trips since it's so small and inexpensive it's easy to tuck into a saddle bag and I can get the basics done with it while on the road.

They're very reliant on "The Cloud", most stuff is done via someone else's computer, part of why they can get away with being so small and relatively under-powered but still get the job done.

...if he sees this thread Savago might have a thing or two to say about Chromium... Wink

I might pick up the samsung galaxy A tablet 10.1" 32gb storage on black friday.  For 169 on sale or so is near 1/2 price of a mid-level 2 in 1 12-14 inch laptop with 4gb RAM and 64harddrive. in that 250-300 range, also on sale black friday deals.  Or, I see a HP 11.6" 4gb memory chromebook msrp 199 for ONLY 99 bucks black friday deal, for 99 bucks hard to beat might just give that a try will probably serve my needs like a mini laptop right just not a lot of storage but still does internet?

My 10+ year old HP pavilion DV7 laptop 10+ years old on windows vista and my wifes one of the original IPAD's way back when have run their course.   They still work but not everything on them work.  1 of my keys on keyboard on laptop is missing and DVD drive not working as well as webcam and windows not supported anymore of course with vista running the show.   Still works though most of the time for what I need it for, mostly anyways???  Battery is also dead must be plugged in all the time since after going thru the first 2 batteries I decided that the laptop was not worth the expense of a 3rd battery...
