Had the last external radiation beam session today and had to drive cautiously through 5-6 inches of new snow to get it. I've posted about the brachytherapy procedure and the external beam followed....25 of them. It's painless but the cumulative effect I felt kinda messes with your plumbing. Plus it took a bit of a toll on me physically....became very tired more toward the end, often had trouble sleeping, and always a little sick when I first got up each morning. The gals running the machine were great, fussed over me and as one commented "you remind me of my grandfather" which was nice but really makes you feel your age. Today, when done the entire bevy of techs surrounded me and I got major hugs and a couple smooches on the cheek. When I went to check out I was told that was only the second time she had ever seen those gals react like that. They all knew my recent history so probably felt a little more compassionate, plus I always would joke/tease with them and they gave it right back. My only thing left is a 3 month follow-up in February when I get my last shot and a PSA and testosterone readout. If it's normal, I'm through and free to wander whenever this white crap goes away in a couple years...seems like that far away! Did get a lupron shot today and I think she used that infamous square needle with a blunt tip cuz my butt is really sore. The first two weren't like that but this one....holy cow.

Like I told my daughter Toni....I'll be in good shape for Thanksgiving now. The holidays will be difficult enough by themselves but I'll be with family.  cooldude

John,
.....maybe even share a mile and a smile or two together... Hang in there!!!

DDT
I'd love to do that one day, will have to see what the future holds.  cooldude

I know I'm not the only one that has gone through an experience like this. I really appreciated the various PM's and direct emails received. Yes, 2019 has been a difficult year but now things are looking up. Told my daughter I should be in good enough shape to do justice to her T'giving cooking and believe me....that girl can cook.

Meant to add....due to circumstances in May, I had to put off the treatment for 2-3 months, something that worried both me and the radiation oncologist. He was worried it might spread if not attended to post haste. Late in the summer they did a total body scan and the result was it had not spread into the surrounding tissue or the bones. Folks, that was an answer to prayer because if it had spread, I may well have been joining my loved ones that have gone on before me. FWIW, I lost a good friend in Sept. with exactly that same issue. He ignored his prostate problem for a year, it spread throughout his body. A mutual friend told me is was easier to list where it wasn't present.

John, I'm sure glad to hear that things are looking up. It ought to be a Great Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday for you and your girls. Stay warm and and confident this holiday season and I'm sure they'll be plenty more hugs and kisses going around too. Prayers are abundant and your on the list.  angel
