Our very first day on the Valk up on the BRP!

Lynchburg, Virginia

« on: December 05, 2009, 09:37:43 AM »

My Son Paul and I had to have his best friend, our 10 year old Boxer, J.R. put to sleep today. Probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do. The house is going to be a lot more lonely now even though I still have his Dad, Atlas and another little Venus.

Rest in Peace J.R.!  We will see you at the Rainbow Bridge!

Been there, done that a few times.  It's never easy and I'm always heartbbroken after.  You have my most sincere condolences.   Cry

Condolences on the puppy..
It is hard on ya for a little while.....

I lost Bandit (Chinese Pug) in like 98 or 99.

Said no more dog, and I have stuck to it.

I'm over the need for a companion now.

I got mom.   LOL.............
She will kill me for that comment.
So keep it quiet, OK?

It is very difficult and I am sorry for your loss.
My wonderful dog Hope had to be put to sleep last spring, I will always miss her.
Her best  friend Harmonie (my other dog) also misses her. We got another dog, Grace.  She is a wonderful dog, and it has really helped Harmonie.

Like I said, I will always miss my special friend Hope, but I am thankful for the years I was able to have with her and all the special memeories I will always have.

In time the pain is not as bad, getting to spend that time with our special pets is priceless.

As I told a friend, I'd rather sit on the swing in the backyard holding my cat, than spend time with about 95% of the people I know.  Really sorry about your son's best friend.

Sorry for your loss. About 6 months ago we had to let our 14 year old Rottie go. Never had a dog like her. Swore never again would I go thru that pain, but we're starting to weaken.

My condolences.  Our first year here in CO, we had to put down three dogs, one cat, and had one dog die of old age.  And had to put down our 16 yr old cat three weeks ago.  Never easy.

Sorry to hear about the sad day for your family.
We too made the promise to not add another member to the family (at least for a year) after having our Westie for 15 yrs.   Well that "promise" lasted about 3 weeks...lol.

Sorry for your loss.  We had to put down our dog, Murphy in August a week before our youngest left for college.  We have agreed no more dogs.  We can't go thru that again.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It's never easy and always hurts.  Nothing can completely eliminate the pain, but puppy-breath sure helps!

Our very first day on the Valk up on the BRP!

Lynchburg, Virginia

« Reply #19 on: December 06, 2009, 12:39:09 PM »

Thanks for all the sentiments everyone! It's starting to get better for me, but then I am the old fart of the bunch. My son on the other hand is having a pretty rough time of it. This was his first dog, and his first experience with death. He keeps second guessing our decision to have J.R. put down. Even though he is the one getting ready for Med School, and knows the ins and outs of the Grand Mall Seziours  (SP?) and heart attacks. It just looks like it will be a tough few days.

Hozer: If you look at the bottom of the picture of J.R., I stated that we will see him at the Rainbow Bridge. I love that poem! Thank you for posting it for those who may not have ever seen it before.
Thanks again all,
Tom Tompkins

Well, talk about weakening. After our beloved Rottie my wife wanted a small lap dog to cuddle with when we get another. Just picked this Dachsund up this evening from a rescue shelter and she is a little sweety. Very lovable.
