I am sure this has been asked and answered before but I can't find a thread.

Battery fully charged, not hydralocked, in neutral, bank angle sensor OK. Press the starter button headlight goes out (relay controlled as per previous recommendations) but starter doesn't turn over. Fuse in starter relay OK, contacts not burnt. Short the starter relay out with a spanner and it starts.

Any suggestions please as I was looking forward to a ride tomorrow morning.

My normal smart ass question.

Did you hit the kill switch by mistake?

Not the first to do it  cooldude

I don't know if your on an I/S or something else. In the fairing of an I/S is a red square plug. My starting issue was in that red square plug. Loose contacts in that plug. While I'm not sure I believe the Standard and the Tourer have something similar in the head light bucket. You stated the contacts in the starter switch aren't burned BUT are the contacts clan and springs installed correctly? RIDE SAFE.

Starts button cleaning is due. (At least that’s my guess)

Sometimes you can finesse the starter switch to verify it needs cleaning.  Mine started acting up now and then when the bike was only a few months old.  I complained to the dealer and he didn't have a clue.  He replaced the battery under warranty just in case that was it.  All seemed fine until it happened again.

When it did act up I learned I could start it by pressing the switch from a corner, or wiggling it as I pressed it.  I finally heard that cleaning the switch would solve the problem.  Since I did that it hasn't given me any trouble in 20 years, and 175,000 miles.
