he could not show up for our 4 p.m. assisted living evaluation of our mom.  He called me right when the guy started asking questions stating could not make it he caught someone trying to break into his house right about when he got home before coming over at 330 p.m..  Some bum who was on drugs who blabbered and was speaking jibberish and then he let the guy walk into his backyard him trying to hop his tall fence which he could not do so he walked in front yard my brother following closely since was NOT going to let him leave the scene (he called the cops ASAP), then the bum walked right into neighbors house with neighbor home he ran him outta there ASAP then bum went to another neighbors house trying to get in my brother watching him all the time is when 4 cop cars showed up and hauled his butt to jail.

WOW - some nerve to not try 1 house, but 3 houses all the while my brother following him nearby.  He did not fight him to the ground since he seemed outta hit and probably dooped up with needles and never know some of them might have a gun, never know?

brother lives in a VERY small town of 800 tops in rual WI area even smaller than my 1200 town.  NOT safe EVER even in small town USA.  AT least the county boys showed up within say 10-15 minutes since pretty sure that small town does not have 1 police officer even must rely on county boyz to show up.  My town has 1 full time officer and 2 part timers, overkill in my book but one never knows even in small town USA when more than 1 will be needed as evidence today.

what would you all do if you saw a bum who was speaking jibberish trying to break into your home pulling up into your own driveway?  tackle him?  ask him questions which my brother did saying this is MY house not yours what you trying to do? or for sure call 911 ASAP?  nowadays never can be too rude to a psycho could have a gun or knife or needles from using drugs to jab you with?

putting a baseball bat in my vehicles in backseat now just in case..... coolsmiley

We have a Full time force-24/7/365. Far as What I'd do I've done-keep an eye on the turd or turdette and dial 911. The Longest I've ever waited after dialing was like 5 minutes. They-turd or turdette-git belligerent I NEVER leave my house with out my self protection-NEVER. I live in a small town-population a bit less than 2000. And here bouts most law abiding citizens are armed. Under the circumstances your Brother probably did as well as could be expected. RIDE SAFE.

A base ball bat used in self defense would be considered a deadly weapon in a court law. Also a bat would only be of use at arms length which is way inside your 21 foot kill zone. With a Wisconsin carry permit you would be able to protect your self before a threat is able to get inside your safety zone. Get a friend to stand 21 feet from you. Then let him/ her decide when to run at you. You’ll get a better idea of how useful your bat is going to be. You might be able to get the bat into a defensive posture but he not a striking motion.

When some obvious junkie showed up at our house late one night, unseen and unheard which means she snuck up our driveway without headlights on. I walked into my room, got my pistol and did an end around out another door. She skidaddled quick when she saw the pistola.    They are everywhere, scoping out homes, seeing what they can get away with.  I write a lot of arrest warrants on druggies Angry

There is always the possibility that Mr Bum wanted to be arrested.

Yesterday it was 45 degrees here and right now 20 degrees, zero when you factor in the wind chill.

Entering three homes uninvited should get him about 3 to 5 months in the county jail where he will remain warm and fed at no cost to him.

Water from the hose would not generally be considered lethal force;  if water will flow through the hose (temp wise).

And there's always body lice to consider.

If you feel you must use a club, a shot to the knee or shin is good evidence you were not trying to be lethal.

Beside hurting like hell, its hard to run after being cracked on the shin/knee.  Making the target easier for LEO's to find or allowing you to get away from them.   2funny

If you ever see a fallen branch...always best for self defense...hard to pull finger prints and you just say he/she/it/them tripped and fell on it...

bats are traceable...

What the hell is a Basketball bat? Would make basketball more interesting for sure.

So each team has eleven players. Like football
Played on an Ice rink like hockey.
Instead of a puck or football, a basketball is used
Which can only be hit by a basketball bat into a hockey goal or between football goal posts or into a regulation basketball net attached to the goalposts. Skates, shorts and t-shirts. That's it.

I'd watch that. Wouldn't want to get hit by the basketball bat. It would be an awesome bat though.

my brother is more calm than me, not sure what I would have done?   My brother kept talking to him though to keep asking questions from a safe distance and followed him to wherever he was wandering around to not letting him outta sight so the cops came soon after.  I do not think his town has any full time police officers too small, but the county boyz are not too far away usually.  He said 4 police cars though came in quickly and snatched the dude up ASAP just like SWAT on TV....   Grin

would surely scare the crap outta me though if what neighbors did was leave their door unlocked while even home with the guy just walking right in.  That would be scary and like what the F do you do now moment?

could possibly be though he wanted to be arrested to stay warm since last night was like 12 degrees out with windchill near zero or so.   I lock my doors all the time but on weekends I sometimes leave my garage door open but ONLY if I am going to be outside doing stuff needing assess to garage stuff.    Anyone could come up and steal my tools or other misc. stuff not worth much, except my cycles and ATVs they could try pushing away - good luck with that pushing a 800+lb. cycle down the street see if they get far....

That is when you level the .45 at his head and tell him to get down until the police  arrive. If he refused calmly tell him lay down here or at the Morgue your choice.

that would work for those who have a brain, but on drugs and speaking jibberish, I doubt he understood even with a gun pointing at his head.
