A Vermont legislator just introduced a bill in the state Senate that would ban cellphone use for those under 21.

It is said the bill has little chance of passing. 

"The bill said the Legislature has concluded those under 21 years old “aren’t mature enough” to possess guns, smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol and the same should apply to cellphone use. The state recently increased the smoking age to 21 and barred those under 21 from buying a gun unless they take a hunter safety course."

"The bill was introduced by Sen. John Rodgers, D-Essex-Orleans. Rodgers said Wednesday he introduced the bill to make a point."

This is truly amazing, intelligence, wit and wisdom coming from someone with a (D) after their name!

"He said he’s a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and the Legislature “seems bent on taking away our Second Amendment rights.”

He said, based on the information presented in the bill, a cellphone is much more dangerous than a gun."

A car is much more deadly that a cell phone. No DL until 21.  Once they graduate high school, lock them away in a safe room until there 21st birthday. Upon release from said safe room they will be released to a branch of military service  of his/her choice. tickedoff

So that means they dont have to go to war also, right? I really want to know in all fairness if you put all these rules on them, take away their privleges then how can they go to war or be drafted? I understand the problem heck, its terrible here in Florida but a few prosecuted talking on their cells or texting and those that get in accidents because of it make them face a higher penalty and then lets see what happens.

 I must say also that I see increased accidents, hit and runs and no insurance of those that recently came into the country also, so what do we do about these people?

Ya'll..... Read the article and my earlier comment..... This bill was introduced purely to make fun of idiots trying to restrict 2nd amendment rights, nothing more.,... Even the (D) politician that introduced it said he would NOT vote for it if it actually made it up for a vote.....

So if he was really serious and they did ban anyone under 21 from owning/having a cell phone, would a person under 21 who is not from that state crossed over the border and used their cell phone be breaking the law?   Just wondering.  2funny

Got no issues with that.   I do have an issue with someone being old enough to go fight for our country but, not being allowed full rights.   Yeah, I don't like cell phone drivers/users either.

Cell phone use is a right?

In 1968 I came home on leave as an active duty Marine.  I thought I'd like to do some plinking with my 22.  I was not allowed to buy 22 ammo myself.  I had to have my parent buy it for me.  I didn't feel so much slighted against my entitlement but I did feel it was a bit silly.

It seems a silly proposal and highly unlikely to pass but has little or nothing to do with the opportunity to serve one's country.   Wink

The legal drinking age in all states is 21.

When I was in service members could buy and drink alcohol on base but not off base if under 21.

When my son was in under 21 couldn't even buy alcohol on base.


I firmly believe that a 18 y/o that is erving in the military should be able to drink a beer.

But, if the powers that be think otherwise then why should a cell phone be any different?

I guess I don't understand the comment.  If a right exists and it is abused, the abuser should be punished not the rest of the population. 

A right, by definition, is something that belongs to you, it is not given to you by a "government".  It comes from a much higher power.

I do think that is funny...no cell phones until they are 21...we didnt give our boys cell phones until they were done the 8th grade...other parents thought we were mean...we then disconnected our land line. I am teaching my oldest to drive now...before I hand him the keys, he has to put his phone in the trunk...he can still make voice activated calls, but cannot txt while driving...

At this point and time, I do not understand why newer vehicles are not activated by an APP...once that vehicle is started the only access to that device is for emergencies...Passengers would still have access...if the driver is caught then plan and simple loose of license for a year...no fine...or give them the option...no phone or no driving for a year...

Agreed 100%. Unfortunately, no phone for a year would be impossible to enforce. No license, absolutely.

SUspended license DOES NOT stop people from driving. The only way to do that is to throw them in jail.
