Some may have noticed and wondered about certain posts being removed.

Our Rules of the Road indicate that disrespectful commenting is not allowed.  I interpret that5 to include name-calling of other posters and using demeaning diminutive names to refer to public figures supported by other members.  The latter has occurred much too often in the past and enough is more than enough.

Public figures supported by other members may include the President of the United States, political candidates and others.  Honestly if you have that habit at all you should break it.  It is by nature disrespectful communication and is juvenile at best.

It is a fine line, hard to miss but easy to miss at the same time

I have found it wise to never immediately post what I have written and when in doubt, delete the word you want to use and think of another

Why allow any political posts? It’s a motorcycle information board. You don’t allow pornography because it’s offensive, why allow anything political? Chances are about 50% of the general public disagrees (less on this board). You’ll probably say “if it’s political don’t read it”. Deleting all political posts solves the problem. Just my opinion.

Leaving some political posts is a good thing...otherwise we would talk about oil, tires and the instant death of going to the darkside.. 2funny 2funny

Some reads are interesting enough...keyboard muscles are another issue...some just like to take the opposite site to any debate...need the spot light shining on them i guess...imagine if we all got along...we would probably ride harleys and not do our own maintenance....and spend more money of HD clothes than our rides... Evil Evil Cheesy Cheesy

Anyway...Ride safe...

Politics is a part of life. If you cannot read political posts without getting your shorts in your crack then don't read them. We all read magazines and books and choose what we read. That is the benefits of a free society. I see all kinds of stuff politically that I don't like, but sometimes its the mixture that holds my interest. If you can't read opposing views without getting upset it speaks something about your character.

It will never change. One voicing his/her opinion is free speech. But some post and demand their post is right and yours is wrong. You can call names, show web sites links. No matter what is posted you will never change a persons view on the subject. Getting mad and trying to make the other person look foolish to me is childish. Two of the worst topics to talk about is Religion and politics. you can take 2 guys who love motorcycling and can talk all day. Once the 2 other subjects are mentioned these once pretty good fellows will possible blow up and hate and never talk to each other again. Just because they can't agree to disagree. JMO

The political posts here, which the clear majority here enjoy writing and reading and sharing information and discussing between us (and mostly in pretty consistent agreement) are good and interesting.  Among the clear majority, it promotes good fellowship and camaraderie and a forum synergy among the membership.

The 2-3 naysayers should not get to prohibit, or cause deletion or locking of posts the clear majority enjoy.  And if everyone would just ignore the 2-3, there wouldn't be any arguments at all.  (Except the arguments they have with themselves, which is their free speech right too.)  Stop enabling them by arguing with them (and getting threads edited or locked, and Carl's blood pressure up).

And try to stick to the rules of the road.

Solved.

I agree that personal attacks and name calling should be removed, but the political discussion should be allowed.

Well I knew that was coming. I don’t think the 1st amendment writers had the Valkyrie motorcycle message board in mind when they drafted the amendment. If you want free speech start your own political message board. This is a motorcycle message board. Should we talk about boats? Sports? Cigars? Where does it end?

I have seen more than a few conservatives here post this sentiment. It seems odd to me. “I come here because everyone else thinks like I do” seems akin to a echo chamber.

The 2-3 naysayers should not get to prohibit, or cause deletion or locking of posts the clear majority enjoy.
You would have to ask Willow, but I’d be willing to bet that most threads are locked, deleted due to something said by others. The “2-3 naysayers” have little power here.

I seems to me the naysayers step in and light the fuse. You just gave your opinion about the majority as being interested in a circle jerk. That is what infuriates many, it’s very condescending and not appreciated. Disagree all you want but remain respectful. Of course this applies to everyone not just naysayers.  Also submit the naysayers have just as much power as any other member. If I act like an asshole, I expect to be treated like an asshole.

Yeah, the "circle jerk" comment is simply vulgar.  A better term is "echo chamber".

You should reread what I wrote. “More than a few” does not equal the “majority”. Just to be more clear, it’s probably only 4 or 5 that I have seen express this sentiment.

It is equally offensive whether more than a few or majority. Maybe you should reconsider how you come across evidenced by my reaction as I’m sure you know that you are constantly telling people to reread your comments.

Having said that, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion.... just like everyone.
