Hurry-Up & Wait...

Well, I can’t say I didn’t already have plenty of experience with that. Nope, I’ve spent many, many days bobbing & weaving, ducking & dodging, zigging & zagging trying to avoid nasty weather. I’ve also spent countless days and nights in motels lying over to allow crapola to pass over us, so we could then move on in the aftermath. Heck, I even spent time with my dear Uncle Sam and his troop of teenage warriors, so… I used to tell folks, “I spent three years in the Army, and two & half of those I was standing in line someplace.” Yep, nothing about any simple delay is new to this weary veteran…

So, a little while ago a choice-point presented itself, and… I did it. I made the relatively easy call to hang around a couple of more days in Lake Charles to let some rain come and go… Then, I’d be able to continue my ride west. Jerry and Bobbie convincingly extended an invitation to stay, and I accepted.

Now, the idea of riding most certainly inclined me to move on but spending time with good friends too infrequently seen was also powerful, indeed. And then there was the thought of having to ride through or around Houston within a couple of hours of KSU… A very strong argument not to go! At least not until I must, anyway.

Once this next round of rain had passed, it appeared we’d have an appealing period of dry days ahead… Not only do we all prefer those for extended riding, there is also the fact doing this will allow us plenty of time to ‘ride around’ both Houston and San Antonio! Nothing against either of those places, it’s just that they both are huge and the traffic is… scary business!

Yeah, we’ve ridden through both many times, and I do know we can likely pull it off uneventfully… For sure it ain’t nearly as much fun as back roads and small towns, however, and with this choice, we'd have the luxury of slow-paced easy riding. Heck, I may even find time to take some pictures… once we return to our mission…

In the meantime, I would have to hang around for a couple more days… I’m really happy to have such fine folks to hang out with, too… Otherwise, I might be tempted to resort to watching TV! Gawd! Even I can only watch so many reruns of old shows. Of course, I could watch so-called news… Regrettably, I have an even lower tolerance for BS than I do for reruns. I have a hard time believing the general population is interested in the ongoing ‘political’ drama spectacle unfolding recently and for the foreseeable future! It has, though, given me pause to reflect…
