Yes, and the Swiss also have the best universal healthcare in the world as well as a mandatory primary education system that is the envy of the free world. Not only do the Swiss have the lowest crime statistics, they have the highest standard of living (per capita) in the entire world.

A lot of their success is attributable to taking care of their own and not illegal aliens (or "Gastarbeiters"). If you're not a citizen,....no free ride. Sorry Charlie!!!

Why do you think Hitler never invaded or tried to annex Switzerland!!??  We used to be the " Nation of Riflemen ".

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.

In the Summer the Swiss have a weekend when they practice manuvers and marksmanship. In each little village, usually on Sunday AM, they meet at the firing range for national qualifications. They are serious but friendly and it appears that a good time is had by all. What is interesting is that you can look at the age of the participant and predict what type of rifle each will practice with. Bolt action, semi-auto battle rifle or select fire battle rifle.

During this weekend you will see uniformed, armed groups and individuals all over the place doing what needs to be done. An on Sunday do not be alarmed if you are awakened early by rifle fire. There just practicing or qualifing. Other Swiss citizens continue with what they normally do. Thanks Pete

Moreover, the men had to perform an annual rifle qualification...... to keep their citizenship!  Diplomats assigned to the US, had rifles at their embassy, so they could perform their annual qualification. (I'm not sure if this has changed)

But make no mistake, their crime rate is mostly unrelated to universal gun ownership.  It is primarily because of their homogeneous society, with people of mostly identical heritage, culture, values, education, and work ethic.

Hitler wanted Switzerland badly, and it took his generals to talk him out of it.  The Swiss did (quietly) provide considerable aid and assistance to the Reich in any event.
