I had my dog to the vet in the next small town from ours last week and she had two cats that live in her office.  They both have extra toes and she said that they were from a litter of four that were brought to the local shelter and were going to be put down.  Interesting that it is a genetic fault rather than the inbreeding that it was attributed to.  The cat that I saw was a large, light tan coloured shorthair and was very friendly.  I think he had 7 toes on each front foot and six on the back ones - kinda like built in snowshoes, easy to see why they are referred to as "mittens".

I used to have a 6 toed Black cat with a white chest.

He was a retriever for me.    1 day he brought a small ball he had found and dropped it at my feet.  I ignored him.

A few minutes later he was in my face with the ball in 1 paw.
He set down, dropped the ball and hit the floor.

I still ignored him.  Back in my face big time this trip.  He kind of 'P'ed me off, so I grabbed his ball and threw it.  Zing go, he was off after it.  Brought it back and held his paw out for me to take it.

We played toss/retrieve for about an hour.  When he had had enough, he would set in the middle of the floor, protecting his ball.

He also laid in the middle of the street and defied people to run over him.   One day a kid up the street got him on purpose.  He dad about beat him to death for killing the cat.  He and his dad came down and told my daughter he would buy her a new cat.   She politely told him to get his butt off the property and to stay off.   She was super mad....   That was our last cat, daughter has 3 and 1 dog now, so we pet set along with her daughters every once in awhile.  Love it, spoil em and send em home...............   Grand kids also full of Chocolate
