Some of you know me, some newer members may not. I've been around here since 1999. But heres my thoughts. Each side accuses the other side of acting like playground bullies. Funny thing is I'm seeing that from both sides. There are alot of people on this site i have alot of repect for. Some i have no respect for. Seems we have pot stirring on both sides but each side cannot see their own pot stirring. I find it rather disappointing how fast a thread can go dowhill so fast. Do you really think your changing anyone's perspective of what your trying to say when jump into a thread with both feet without thinking it threw first. When some of these posts are responded to i can really tell that it was responded to because someones panties got bunched up. I'm guity of it my self. So I'm looking at myself in the mirror to. I really don't care what people think of me and i no longer own a valkyrie. But can we start acting like adults and quit acting like children that have no consept on how to rein in their temper before shouting back in hast.  Not that i expect any ody to change but it wiuld be nice.

Maybe the answer is not to act like adults. Adults are just kids with experience.

And it is just absolute BS accusing me of wearing panties. Much less bunching up. That is a lie. And if I did they wouldn't.

I hear what you are saying but you could start by using spell check. You have numerous errors.

As I was growing up, I was thought that if you did not have anything good to say about something or someone, then it was best just to not say anything, even if the other person said something you know was wrong, incorrect or just plain insulting.  Arguments were few and far between, except in the classroom style debates, where the teacher or instructor illicited contrary points of view as part of the education process.

It was considered appropriate to "turn the other cheek".  It was the sign of a gentlemen and a "man".

I have tried to live that way for many many years.

But, and here is the problem, times have changed.

I know some comments made on this board are actually made as an attempt at humor and, in some cases, educate.   But, humor is good when well intended, not when the humor is ill intended.  Sometimes this is called "stiring the pot".

Some "pot stirrers" have ill intents, that is the desire to illicit a reaction, not to educate .   If no reaction is received the pot stirrer uses a bigger spoon.

I don't reply to a lot of the "pot stirrer" comments because that would be the desired reaction.

But, and here is a big "but" (no pun intended)  If the comment is an out and out falsehood, I will respond.  But only after checking my answer with several sources.  I will no longer standby while mis-information and falsehoods are stated as facts.

I know, not like I was trained in my youth but I can no longer standby and just ignore what is said and be a good little boy.

I have known Rick probably since 2002, and would never make fun of his grammar   Roll Eyes
except to his face.

The man has a big heart and goes out of his way to help others putting on powwow with Adrian year after year.   I have probably been to and enjoyed more of them than Inzane's over the years myself and have hosted one or two

True we all are big kids, with different amounts of maturity and self control

None of us is perfect but I agree with him when he says threads go downhill pretty quickly

Maybe it's a reflection of our society at whole. More concerning, to me at least, is the trend here of some just constantly posting nothing but BS designed to stir up crap and have a mutual admiration society. Used to be many varied topics. Riding reports, garage builds, stories of life itself. Those are few and far between now it seems. Some even take glee in riling others up. Hell, we have some GREAT writers, that tell great stories. But you would never know it by some. They never give praise or show any appreciation for a positive story. I often wonder if we are really a club anymore. It seems more just an outlet for conspiracy theories, bitch fests, and chest thumping.
I feel very lucky having discovered this place 9 years ago. It has brought me together with some diverse people who am proud to have as friends. I hope to make more. But, I feel things are changing for the worse around here. I hope I'm wrong.

For those of you who care you can simply stop participating.  You may feel you're not guilty if you're not the one starting the thread but you share.

If no one responded to the posts whose purpose seems to be just to stir up poop and divisiveness they would fade.  I'm not saying you can force any of the juveniles to grow up but you can help diminish their power and the destruction of the community.

You can choose to be part of the problem or part of the solution.  I hope it's not too late.

Just so you know it is a pain in the ass trying to maintain some civility here.  It didn't used to be so much.

You can choose to be part of the problem of part of the solution.
I had to read that sentence a few times. It seemed very deep, and I couldn't wrap my head around it. Then it dawned on me, you probably meant "or" ?

I'll admit, I may have stirred the pot once or twice, but after seeing the effect on our little family here, I've tried to reduce/resist the urge.  The unintended consequence/damage isn't the locked posts, it is the loss of members that just got fed up and quit participating.

I enjoy the political posts, and have a pretty thick skin.  I suppose some people don't.  This site would get pretty boring if it was limited to only motorcycle related/technical posts, but apparently that is all some people want/can tolerate.  I suffered through a lot of Bush-bashing, the Obama years, and am now enjoying the success of our current POTUS.  I don't know if it was the what I considered the justified criticism of Obama that caused the mass exodus, but all through the 2016 campaign is when it seems most decided they have had enough.

I sincerely miss most of the members that no longer participate, and I think we should all make a concerted effort to bring them back.  We all need to do our part.   By the way, if you are overly sensitive to certain topics, it isn't mandatory for you to open/read every post.  The unread feature is very helpful.

I never knew there is an unread feature. How does it work? You mean, when you read a stupid hayseed post you don’t like, you get to UNREAD it, like “Men in Black” ?!?
Far out! I gots to try it!
Does it give you back the time wasted reading the stupid post?

i like political posts to. and the different views to go with it.
but when someone posts something with the intent of getting a few people stirred up is what i find unacceptable.
the pot stirrers need to get a life beyond trying to just piss in someones corn flakes.  though i'm a die hard republican i enjoy reading meatheads point of view even though i disagree with most of it, but it is the way he points out his side that interests me.
btw  i hope my grammar is acceptable for this post.  Grin

Thank you, Gary, for the observation.

The point of locking a thread is that the conversation of the thread has deteriorated to a point that there is no productive reason for the conversation to continue.  Some folks think it is okay to post another thread and either continue the conversation or complain about the unfairness of the conversation being terminated.  Neither purpose is acceptable and both will be removed.

If we didn't post our differences......and we just all agreed on every issue.........there would be no forum.    Nobody would post.    I gather a lot of information from this forum, both pros and cons on different issues that help me believe what's right and wrong.    I enjoy seeing different sides of a coin.    I admit that I don't like seeing members get mad at each other but seeing opposite sides debate is a healthy way to help form good opinions on a subject.     For several years now I have been going to a Bible class on Monday nights.   Great bunch of guys.    Every one there is from a different denomination.   We have a Methodist, Catholic, Baptist, Presbitarian, and a Lutheran.   These guys know their Bibles much better than I do and it's very, very interesting to listen to them debate Biblical issues.   I have learned so much from them.    The same with this board.   I have learned a lot from listening to your guys debate issues.    But, we could use a little less hostilities while doing it.
