I might be depending on the weather across the midwest.  As Joe knows, I have saddled up and ridden many miles to enjoy the company of the Smokey Mountain riders.  I will monitor the weather and rewire in my heated clothing in preparation of the possibility of making it to the first ride in eastern TN for 2010.

I have not been out on any road trips, except our Denver to Canada trip, KMI..09, a quick trip to my mothers in Kentucky and the ride with you guys. I been working two contract jobs and remodeling my aunt and oldest sons home. Just now starting to take it easy for the rest of the year...I hope. I figure,it may, with the interstate out, knock a few guys out for the  kmi trip.

Hey Jesse you are correct thats going to add about 150 round trip miles for me with I-40 being shut down it would be right at 400 miles. Don't count me out if it's not snowing I'll more than likely be there .With the 1st being on friday I may be able to just get a room in Asheville after we do Mt.Mitchell.Anyone else plan on staying in the area over-night ? Last year 2008 was sweet with the nice temps but 2007 was a cold ride home with snow and ice getting us almost all the way. I rode my Suzuki Bandit that year I miss that bike and wish I'd never sold it  Undecided  ( Picture below from the summit of Mt. Mitchell the highest and coldest place in the south )

Joe,
Fill me in on this extra miles stuff?  If I decide to come, I'm sure I'll be staying some place after the ride.  Will know more next week.  I have an interview with a company that might and I say might put me closer to the area.  Looking for my temp control harness to wire in the heated clothing.  Jonesing for a ride east and this might be the one to as I said start the year off right.

OBTW, I am residing in Amarillo right now.  Took me 10 days to get home from Central washington.  The Big Red land Elephant is calling for a road trip.

Charlie I-40 has been shut down a couple months and they claim late spring or early summer before it re-opens ( Rockslide )... It's shut off at mm#2 just as you cross into North Carloina from Tennessee. Fastest way to Asheville is take I-81 to Johnson City and hit I-26.

Your right Joe...I-40 SD sucks. I have made the trip twice to Glasgow,Ky. and found the best way is.... jump off @Newport Tn. and take hwy 70 to Hot Springs, then you have a choice, stay on 70 to Weaverville, NC (@ I-26) or go down hwy 209 (twisty) to hwy 63 and into Ashville,NC. This works either way. If you go South of I40 you will need to take hwy 441 over to 74, unless you know the fire roads....mostly dirt and gravel.

We will just have to wait and see what mother nature deals us.

Jesse, I had to go to Knoxville last week. Thought about going to Weaverville and taking 70. Have done that many times just to stay off the super slab. But I was afraid there would be a lot of 18 wheelers and as you know it is 2 lane most of the way. Ended up taking some lesser known roads to I-81. Wasn't bad at all. But on New Years Day there shouldn't be much 18 wheeler traffic.

Normdog...No 18 wheelers allowed, except for local delv.or normal route. We did not have any delays at all. I think the state put up a sign for 18 wheelers to stay on super-slab. I will post after I do some ck'ing, we might change the hook-up point this yr. Maybe a better place to meet is, near Ashville this time. If ya'll got any ideas, I am open for suggestions.

I'm considerating.  I do love the ride, the camaraderie, the sites, even the cold, not to mention the ride.

I'm in desperate need of new rubber for the front.

What are we using to take the place of the Venom?
