Since the hot rod is out of the shop for a few days getting some interior tin work done, and since I haven't touched the Valk since returning from Joseph, Oregon last September, this was a perfect opportunity to give it some much needed love. I walked into the garage side of the building to retrieve the Valkyrie but had to move the tractor first to get at it. While on the tractor I checked the hour meter only to discover it too was due for some maintenance.

So the tractor filled the vacant spot in the shop while the fat lady sits in the cool garage continuing her winter slumber. What does this mean? Is my love affair with the best motorcycle ever built waning? Is this a normal part of the aging process, choosing to work on a tractor instead of a motorcycle? Could my riding days be coming to an end? Will warmer weather and a good triple digit ride over the North Cascades Highway rekindle the affair with the fat girl?

Seeking help,

Confused Undecided

It looks like you may have some other projects to occupy your time as well.

I can’t answer your question, but I hope that’s not the case. Sometimes at the end of the riding season I feel a little like “Wow, I’m sure tired after riding so many miles”. Not tired of riding, just tired. Anyways, as seems to be the case every year, right around February, I start getting the itch to do the bike maintenance, add farkles, maybe change the pipes or add some chrome. Then by the time the sun starts shining regular, I’m ready to ride. Sometimes before both of the bikes are even ready to go. Got rid of the acreage and the tractor years ago. Have a lawn tractor now and it gets regular maintenance. Not on the same scale as the kubota there. Hang in there. When the tractor’s done, you’ll want to move on to the fat gurl.

I'll admit like a long married couple the love has changed from fire to smoke. smitten

No rain or terrible cold weather. Then that perfect temp day hits in spring, the bike is shined up and purring like a tiger and when those picket fences are going by like a blurr....whatdayaknow the fire is back.

I'd be willing to bet the same thing will happen with the hotrod at some point.

Have blue pill will travel. Evil

Since I live in sort of winter conditions, I do have a several weeks that go by with out riding during our winter months.   Longest this year is 4 weeks.   If you would ride your Valk down to southern OR and I could take her for a ride every now and then during the winter.   Just saying.   2funny

By the way after 2 weeks of nearly 60 degree temps and a great ride last Thursday, its been snowing every morning since then.  not much, an inch or so at a time.   Gone by noon.  But the temps are not  very warm.

Thanks for your replies. I'm thinking once the weather warms up, and I take a spirited ride over the State's #1 motorcycle road, the North Cascade Highway 20, I'll get my mind right. Well... maybe not... but as I sit here typing, I'm having flash backs of scaping pegs on my favorite up hill righthand sweeper on that run... so maybe...

You asking us? Why I bet most of us are in the same boat as you, at least I am. I didn't even make it to OR and I still haven't even worked on my bike yet this winter, and Apr is fast approaching for our annual GW spring maintenance day meet up. I'll be throwing a day permit on the bike and get it over there for an oil change and swap out the rear tire to the Auston I have.
