I was in the neighborhood so I pulled into the Powersports place that is the local Honda Dealership. Just to see what’s new. The new Goldwing is knocking on 30k and it looks more and more like a BMW. But there was a new bike. Same engine as the Monkey but a sport version. It’s called the GROM. Looks like fun for an hour but that’s it. I like seeing the old associates. The one that’s been there over 20 years came out to see the cobra bike. He was amazed by the miles and how it still looked. He was there when I first bought it. Here’s the GROM

Wow. They been around that long. This is the first I’ve seen them here at our dealer and they acted like they were brand new there were like seven of them splattered all over the showroom

This Grom and Monkey is a bike that Honda should advertise to the youth to get them interested in biking like they did with the You meet the nicest people on a Honda. But they won't. It is a different time and Honda already is number one in the world for bikes, but not in this country.

both the grom and monkey are nice but not 3K or more nice for such a small engine not capable of much over 60 mph If were 1500 new might be worth a look but they are way, way overpriced for what you get.
I have a 249cc scooter used for 1K bought 8 years ago and will run circles around either one at over 3x's cheaper and much faster and comfier with tons more storage, etc.

Yeah but it's a scooter. Has zero cool factor. I don't think 3k is too much for a grom. Perfect bike for younger kids to learn on. Scooters are like fat girls, they are fun to ride but you don't want your friends to catch you doing it.

Have been considering a pair of Groms or Monkeys for a while now, just for my wife and I to zip around our neighborhood. I think they are both cool in different ways.

The Monkey seat is quite a bit better for comfort than the Grom seat.

I think they would be cool to zip around the neighborhood with also. Last August I bought the Honda Pcx 150 scooter. Not as cool as a Grom, but a blast to zip around the neighborhood and back roads in my area. And with the knee angle for me at 100degrees plus, it is more comfortable at my age than the 76 degree knee angle on the Grom. The Pcx 150 will outrun the Grom by 8 mph or more, unless one wants to mod the Grom for a quite reasonable price. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=honda+grom&view=detail&mid=D99D460B43545E724C3DD99D460B43545E724C3D&FORM=VIRE

A lot depends on what a dealer wants on their floor plan. When that redesigned G W came out couple years ago I wanted to see it up close and personal. The dealer I frequent in West Plains Mo. could get them But Only on an confirmed order. The W P dealer would Not have the new G W on his floor plan. The dealer in Rolla Mo.-bout 80 miles-had the new G W so I went there to see and sit on it. This May be why some have not seen the Grom at their dealer. RIDE SAFE.

I can tell you that we have had a blast on them. Planning on heading out on them after while as a matter of fact just to cruise around. Here they are when we first got them.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8QwZ-YtXlA

I am happy you and the wife are having so much fun with them. It is a different feeling as these small bikes are so nimble and turn so easily. I do not know about you, but it always feels like I am going 10 mph faster than the speedo says. Huge fun factor. Mpg is quite nice also.

The first time I saw one was a group of them were being ridden at the Ice Cycle Derby on January first in Minneapolis. Peeked my interest. That year at the IMS I got to sit on one. I was surprised at how tall the seat height was. On a good day my inseam is 29”. With the Monkey the outcome was the same. Getting my feet to the ground is almost the same as getting my feet down to the ground on my F6B. I’ll never wear out the heals of my boots.

location location location. 60 mph top speed floored all the time where I live will not cut it all hwy. country miles and going uphill am sure will drop to only 55 mph top speed floored. as far as looking cool I could care less not 20 years old anymore. I get the strangest looks me 285 driving what 'appears' to be a small 50cc or more likely a 150cc scoot when in reality it is a 249cc and I smoke most up to say 55 mph no problems, unless they stomp the gas pedal or rev the snot off the line with their HD cycle. ONE bad looking HD dude was revving the snot at a stop light me besides him on the scoot and I spanked him in town up to 45 mph before I backed off did not want to get a ticket in a 25 mph speed zone. MY GPS level surface showed me holding it with one hand on 249cc scoot was 78 mph pretty much floored, fast enough for me and with liquid cooled engine will not overheat like most 150cc on down air cooled scoots hopefully making the engine last longer. PLus, I have huge underseat storage able to hold my helmet and 3 plastic filled bags of groceries, etc. something most cycles do not have. 1st mod anyone should make on monkey is spend 7-8 bucks and get a JT front sprocket 14t vs. the normal 15t (tooth) front sprocket to get more punch in 3rd and 4th gear going from say 60 mph to top speed now around 70 mph. Then, it is do-able I guess on the hwy. for 30-50 mile runs being able to keep up with traffic on the hwys. I did just the opposite on my kids 1997 honda magna going from 16t to 17t rear sprocket to lower the rpms by around 400 rpms in top gear and being able to run 2nd gear in town at much lower rpms as well doing 25-30 mph was much nicer as well as increasing 2-3 more mpg as well with lower rpms in 5th gear. Best 20 bucks or so ever spent as well on a mod. The bike was already fast enough more than capable of spanking most cycles so decided to tame it down just a smidge off the line to be able to hold the gears longer in the mph range. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyGKzwM50gkI did sit on a honda monkey and was surprised though how large it seemed to feel for such a small displacement bike as well as the bigger, comfier seat. I can see it being a very capable in town under 60 mph cycle as well as short runs on the hwy. with the change from 15 to 14t front sprocket that anyone can do in say 1 hour or so and then re-adjusting the chain tighter of course. I guess you can get a few more hp as well by going aftermarket on a better exhaust as well to give it slightly more oomph.
