A friend of mine that works next to the rail road tracks saw about 100 tanks going to Miami. He has never seen that before, Something is not right.

This is the pic being passed around on social media, I've seen it 4 times so far, from 4 different people that aren't connected (Other than through me) saying their friend, uncle, nephew and themselves took it in Florida, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina......

But in all seriousness, this is a normal thing, I've seen it many times myself over the years, just usually no one thinks much about it....

This video from 2012 got folks worked up too:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzCGBYcCta0

https://patch.com/california/watsonville/viral-video-tanks-on-train-explained

Even in normal times the military has lots of toys that sometimes need to be moved around; painting, maintenance, maneuvers, training exercises, etc...

Easier and cheaper to transport tanks on rails as compared to anything else - like any other heavy, bulky freight.

I saw an article that there is not many locations in the US that work on the tanks. They have to be sent there for repair. Most of the repair and upgrades are done by non military. They do the same on choppers, when it comes to major work it is non military. They did it in Vietnam, there was a base full of non military mechanics that did motor changes, trany and blades. They would sling load the chopper to them from most parts of the country. We went through the back door and got parts and did most of our own. We could not be down but for several days. I did an engine change on my scout bird by myself, put new blades on and put a trany in a huey. We had all the shop books and a few good men that could mechanic well. Mechanical failure did happen and did not end well.

The Boeing plant located in the Fairless Hills area of eastern PA has been doing refurbs on Chinook helicopters for decades. I see them flying overhead frequently on their way to and from the Lakewood, Dix, McGuire joint base.  They go right over my house.  You can hear those things coming from a long way...very unique rotor sound.
