This morning one of our Mississippi Scallowags, Jay Stapleton (also known as Jaybird, Jailbird, or Wrong Way Jay) had open heart surgery for 4 bypasses, one of them the “widow maker”. The old man (81) is doing well and will be back on his feet soon. He did not have a heart attack, had not had any energy for a short while and would tire quickly, so he went for a check up, had blockages of 95, 90, 85, & 70%. Because of the virus restrictions his wife had to leave hospital a few minutes after he got into ICU and can’t go back till the day he is released to go home. If you know Jay, say a little prayer...for the nurses.

Hope things work out for Jay. They really have this bypass surgery figured out. I had my bypass 4 weeks ago and was walking after two days and home on day six. Good luck in his recovery.

Happy for him that he is doing well and is in Mississippi and not a virus hotspot. My bypass was 20 years ago this past December. Prayers for Jay and the nurses!

Ken, WOW!!! Sure glad things appear to be working out! Jay, as everybody who knows him already knows, is one of those very special characters we are fortunate to encounter along the way... I know I sure do like him and always enjoy being around him! All of y'all Skallowags, in fact, have been a most welcomed addition to our crew... I will definitely say a prayer for him... Thanks for the news and encouraging outlook; we'll look forward to more good news as it develops... Nosiree, old age definitely ain't fer wimps at all!!! DDT

I'm glad to hear that surgery went well and wasn't discovered by a heart attack. As Bruce said, he is one of a kind!
Meeting you characters a few Inzanes ago was a real hoot. One of the highlights of these trips around the country. Tell him hi from that liberal from Massachusetts. Hope to see him again soon.

For you too Dusty, didn't know. Take things easy recovering. Mine was a valve replacement, 16 yrs ago, with a 6 week on your back recovery.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Jay. He is going home today, I talked to him yesterday on the phone, he seemed very chipper and ready to get out of that hospital. He has a nephew there to help Jay’s wife for a few days. We all are going to stay in touch with him by phone for awhile, till this virus thing diminishes.

Great to hear. I'm glad he's going home. Hospitals are always dangerous places to be health wise.
