Any day that you ride is a good day!

Moneta, VA

« on: March 29, 2020, 10:33:18 AM »

Got out for a little Wind Therapy yesterday.

It was only about 160 miles but it felt good.

Stopped at a country store to grab something to drink and ran into a guy riding this:

It's a 1975 CB400F.

The old bike is in pretty good condition.

He said that he bought it last year with only 900 miles on it.

It needed some restoration but he said mostly it just needed a good cleaning and polishing.

I stopped to take some pics of this:

It's an old canal lock from the late 1700's.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_River_and_Kanawha_Canal

That led to a ride through Goshen Pass:

Goshen Pass is some of the best scenery that Virginia has to offer.

There were even a few sunbathers in the river (sorry no pics).

Goshen Pass leads to Goshen, VA:

Goshen is a small town of about 400 people.

This patriotic tribute is near Iron Gate, VA:

An American flag has been planted on this rock outcropping for years.

Every time one succumbs to the elements somebody climbs out there and replaces it with a new one.

There were plenty of people out and about yesterday.

A lot of people were hanging out on their yards on on their decks with family and friends.

In some of the small towns I saw parents out walking their kids or playing in parks together.

There were also plenty of others out riding their bikes enjoying the day and getting in some wind therapy.

And NONE of them were wearing surgical masks.

It was nice to see people out enjoying the day and living their lives instead of running around in a panic.

The English version of the 400 had flat bars as factory equipment. Excellent little bikes.

Nice ride post and pics Mark.   cooldude

The weather's been pretty great when not raining, but I've only been getting in some short rides.

I've started trying to walk 30+ minutes every day (huge neighborhood), and I'm seeing more people out walking and riding bikes and roller blades and with dogs much more than normal.  Which makes sense with everyone staying home.

People are also much friendlier than normal (from a distance), and that is a nice change.

Many out working in their yards, and I'm glad because they need it.

Mark,

Nice job here! Enjoyed 'the ride with you'... I imagine you had a pretty good cerebral workout, as well... It's good to exercise all of our 'muscles', isn't it...?

Thanks for the ride Mark!
The older I get the more I like old Honda’s. Not sure why, so I bought a 77 CB550K. Rode it to work a couple times and it has a dead spot around 2200 rpms. Might be a bad coil or carb work. Dropped it off at my local bike mechanic last week, he’ll get it right. It feels like a scooter after the Valk...

Nice report... thx for posting this. Love seeing photos of places where others ride  cooldude
A lot of those old Hondas and other Japanese bikes back in the day were just "everyday bikes" ... feel they never got the recognition they deseved at times. Now when I see them in decent shape, they hold the same esteem to me as the older British bikes, etc.
