Right now in Calgary we have the lowest gasoline prices we have had since the 1990s, at 57.9 cents per litre (Costco).  In July 2018, prices averaged $1.38 per litre.  Gas is half price and there's nowhere to go with everything shut down due to COVID-19!  Are prices that dramatically low elsewhere?  I know, convert to USD per US Gallon and it might not look so good in comparison to some US prices, but still...

It's around $1.49 per gallon here. That is about 40 cents/liter.

Last time I checked, crude oil was just below $30.00 US per barrel.   About $55 is considered break even as I remember.  Now add in COVID 19 and social distancing, I believe you can expect it to drop even more.

With an economy and a dollar based heavily on the price of oil, I’m taking no pleasure in the cheap gas.

I’d be much happier with $70/bbl of oil and gas at $1.20/l.

These games being played by the Saudi’s and Russians are not what we need right now. Oil would have dropped just from the drop in demand alone, but not this much.

The spouse works for a food distribution company that buys diesel at wholesale. The last time they filled the in-ground tanks, diesel was $1.35/gallon(US). She had to get IT to give her rights to enter the price since the program parameters would not allow it. I filled the government motors pick-up last week at $2.35/gallon and the price has dropped to under $2/gallon in places since then.

The PHX area is still ripping us off. It’s come down to $2.55 from $2.99 a month ago. Ninety miles up in the MTNs, it’s .30 cents cheaper. AND it costs more transportation to get it up there.

$1.35 around here. In real inflation adjusted dollars that's probably the lowest in history.

I have no idea.  Excluding trips, with my ordinary local urban travel, I get about 5-6 months to the tank (big tank).

Not the bike, but I keep 25 gallons of the corn-free in the shed too.  About 13 left.

Diesel was $1.55 here today. I don't think that lasted long though. Most folks I know filled up.

Those pictures make me wonder if Shell colours and orders their three grades of gas to fool Chevron customers into buying the high-profit premium gas, and vice versa.  uglystupid2

Glad you said something, it was my thoughts also. I had to pick up gas twice today, that is the reason for the 2 pics. But when I went to the pumps I almost pushed different grades since they were in placed the opposite way. I usually get premium so its not the price, its putting regular gas in a vehicle that requires premium.

Saw a news article said that the price of gasoline could get much cheaper than now as the US companies have contracts to buy foreign oil but they have no place to store it.  All storage areas are full.

yah,  what kind of boat you own that takes 432 fricking gallons of gas?  I have a 6 gallon 40hp mercury 2 stroke oil injected motor with 17 foot fishing boat would like to upgrade to 10 gallon gas tank - LOL   2funny since sometimes tooling around am sure less than 1 gallon of gas left before using a paddle to shore.

as far as gas prices,  I drove 350 miles on interstate today seeing both kids up north with 16 mpg truck and filled up full tank using my kwik trip 15 cents per gallon savings got it for 1.149 normally 1.299 pricing but was E88 being 15 percent ethanol vs. E10 being 10 percent ethanol     E10 normal 87 octane gas was 1.499 so for only 5 percent more ethanol can deal with a 20 cents per gallon savings.

costco has E10 87 octane gas for only 1.29 but was closed by the time we got back to pump gas today.  I am not complaining since when I saw 1.149 per gallon near 30 gallons can deal with that sure hope it goes still lower to 99 cents a gallon as it was in mid 80s last time I remember it under 1 bucks per gallon.

Just filled up both rigs, truck/car, at a whopping $2.59.   It may go lower in the near future, but won't be driving as much.  Rain, snow, wind does make for fun riding, maybe later in week.

Yup, makes no sense.  It was $2.09 in Tucson on Friday.  I did see that a Thumbs station on Bell and the 101 was selling gas for $1.95 with a free full service option (they pump).  Don't know how long that lasted though.

We go to a reservation to get edibles that help manage my girl's pain issues. At the same reservation we got (corn free) gas at $0.55/L. Lowest price I've seen since early nineties.

Average around the rest of Ontario (gasbuddy) appears to be from $0.60/L up to $0.68/L.
This average is still 40c less than normal.

That's true.  I spent this morning querying tank capacities and daily production rates.  If refineries stop taking oil, you need to know how many days the wells can produce before running out of storage capacity.

What’s the break even point on oil in order to make fracking an alternative? I don’t think they can do it for $30 a barrel can they?

Depends on where you're at, with what kind of production rates you'll see for your investment.  Cost of drilling a well these days easily exceeds $10 million, so in the Permian (Midland, TX) area the volumes are high enough to break even at $40 to $50 per barrel.  Lots of wells there see initial production rates of 2,000 barrels per day or more, though they drop very quickly.  But elsewhere initial rates aren't nearly that high, so $60 per barrel or more is needed to break even.  Keep in mind you have to pay landowner royalties of 15-20%, then taxes on top of that.  Nobody, even the Saudis or Russians, can make money at $20.

$1.59 near Franklin NC

Pulled into gas station and rolled past the pumps lookikng for the last one with regular so as to not block pumps for other people.

Noticed a guy walking, following the car.

As soon as I stopped he tried opening the gas flap.

I jumped out and asked him if this was "service with a smile".

Yep.

He inserted gas nozzle and went to attend to 2 other vehicles.

He returned to my vehicle and I asked how I could pay.

Cash or credit card he replied.

Not having the exact cash amount I gave home my credit card.

He walked to the center pump. Swiped the card and returned with an old wood clipboard with a receipt on for me to sign.

So he's coming into contact with multiple vehicles and people and passing me the clipboard that has been held by numerous people.

I took my card and receipt and placed it in the luggage area of my hatchback.

Opened my passenger door and pumped some hand sanitizer.

Got home and sprayed the card with disinfectant and threw the receipt away.

Then hand sanitized and hand washed.

Actually appears that full service is riskier than self service.

Same deal with sex.

Buddy of mine insists I should be using sanitizer on hands, shifter and steering wheel (and whatever else you touch in your car), as you go about your shopping, loading, gassing, yada.  So you're keeping things you are constantly touching clean during your outing.  I continue to try and balance reasonable risk with paranoia... but it's getting harder.

WOW.   Our lovely governor has proclaimed that we could pump our own gas during this time of the virus but could still have someone pump it they were available.    State Fire Marshal thought we could do it.  He has been against it for many year.   WE idiots can't be expected to handle a pump in this state.   2funny

Our gas price is dependent on price in CA for a portion of the tax as we get our gas from there.

So still $2.59 a gallon.
