I never noticed this before but my address bar says this site is not secure.
Is there a setting I can adjust to make it secure or is this of no concern?

I've seen this using Firefox on the Windows 10 desktop.   I'm usually on an Android tablet.   If it's unsecure, it's probably unsecure on both.

That just means communications to the VRCC Forum is done on an unencrypted channel, not utilizing SSL.

And since setting up a proper SSL certificate is not free or terribly simple, and the worst someone could intercept here is your private messages, I can understand why VRCC staff haven't made setting that up a priority...

(In other worse, all that's saying is that your communications to and from the VRCC forum is being sent on a postcard, not a secure envelope.)

I don't know about site security, but a couple days ago something really wierd happened on my settings. I assumed it's something I did, but maybe not. On some of the posts that O2S has posted MarkT's avatar pic shows up in the dialog. And then I noticed when I go to respond to a post, his avatar pic is up with the emojis. Very strange indeed.  ???

Exactly what I'm using except right now. I'm using Microsoft Edge with the same results. The warning says "be careful here".

Browsers used to show that you were connected to a secure encrypted site with a little padlock in the corner, and 'HTTPS://" in the URL.  About a year ago, they began prominently displaying a Not Secure message to encourage sites to install SSL certificates.  But actually nothing about this and millions of other websites changed.

The "let's encrypt" project is reputable and free... and probably not simple enough
or needed enough for use here at the vrcc...

The padlock with a red stripe through it is what shows on Firefox which is my default browser.

Again - as Serk stated - all that means is that the Website Admins have not installed an SSL certificate. IOW - this was the default for almost all (except financial institutions) up to a couple of years ago.

Yes, the site is not encrypted.  Please do not post your account numbers on this site.

Truthfully you should not post your email address either as anyone can read the site.  Allowing others to see your email address in your profile is limited to registered members.

I have a number of email addresses that simply forward to my main email address.  If I start getting regularly spammed, I can just create a new forwarder and kill the compromised one.
