So, I never did a compression ck on my engine because the tester I have didn’t have the correct adapter, but I was always curious.

Had a little idle issue this past Sunday and got to looking into why and decided I need to ck compression, so broke down and bought a tester that fits.

WTH!!

Left side        Right side
90                       90
90                       90
120                     135

Holy Cow!! It’s broken!!
Hard to believe because this thing ran like a spotted-a$$ed ape other than the idle thing!
(A buddy was on his Harley so I had to ride the brake so he could keep up, you know, like we all do)

Then got to reading on the site and was enlightened that you have to open the throttle when testing.

New test (the correct way)

Left side          Right side
165                      165
165                      165
165                      170

Whew!!

One thing that I thought was strange is that the Honda service manual says to remove only one sparkplug at a time. Nobody does this.

from the manual:
NOTE
To measure the cylinder compression of each cyiinder,
remove only one plug at a time.

I always remove all of the plugs to do a compression test.

Depending what we were working on , sometimes we would do both ways.  Maybe it was just to charge the customer more.
Something about the plug, no plug was to find a head gasket blown between cylinders.(?)
