Okay, by now most here know I think this coronavirus is serious.  This morning the US surgeon general said the ‘saddest week of most Americans’ lives’ ahead.

https://www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2020/04/coronavirus-us-surgeon-general-warns-saddest-week-of-most-americans-lives-ahead.html

In my case, I can say with confidence that I seriously doubt that.  I am not one to complain, but I've had my share of deep sorrow and tribulation.  I watched my beloved mother die from the ravages of ALS.  I saw my dear dad make an arguably justifiable and definitely understandable escape from this ol' world.  I've dealt with physical hardship and I cope with pain on a daily basis.  I wasn't around to see the world wars or Pearl Harbor, but do remember 'nam and cried real tears watching our twin towers fall with so many innocent Americans still trapped inside them.

So, I still say we'll get through this, as individuals and collectively as a nation.  It sounds like in the near future it may not be pretty, and it will likely be very sad to see the virus attack the weakest and most vulnerable people in our society.  But I doubt it will be the saddest week in my life, and I'm willing to bet it won't be the saddest week in your lives, either.

Carry on, and be safe!  cooldude

The 3 worst weeks of my life were losing Mom, Dad, and FIL. Followed closely by the deaths of MIL's Mom and one sister.

My personal bad things don't even compare to those...yet.

cooldude Well put. We that have some "mileage" on us have dealt with lot in the past 60+ years. This virus is more about "mainstream media" justifying their existence but I do commend the update from Washington but still skeptical about how far we are going as a nation combating the virus.

Saddest week in America? Really!

Chance of dying from:
- Corona                       0.06% (using projected 200,000 US deaths/worse case)
- Influenza                    0.002%
- Respiratory Disease    3.57%
- Heart disease             14.29%
- Accident (Self Harm)  1.05%
- Car Accident               0.88%
- Pedestrian Incident     0.15%
- Motorcycle  Accident   0.10%
- Assault by Firearm      0.27%
(resource www.nsc.org/work-safety/tools-resources/injury-facts/chart)

So it's not a sad week for Americans who die from the flu, other diseases, accidental deaths, car accidents, motorcycle accidents, etc, etc, etc?
Any death is sad. What is making dying from C-19 more tragic?
Answer - the media.

I am angry at the media based fear mongering. It must stop!

In fairness I'm sure the Surgeon General didn't mean that this week would be the saddest for each and every American.  I believe he meant that the upcoming week would be that saddest that America as a whole has experienced.

I do join you, though, I doubt it's accurate.

It seems odd to me the amount of you who are pissed at the media for reporting what the health experts are projecting.  Shocked Do you feel the media is untruthful about it ? Do you feel the experts are being untruthful ?

That isn't what is going on.

The health experts have used different scenarios to put out different projections. The media used the worse case scenario, which was wrong. I have since watched quite a few health experts pointing this out.

As long as it is not puffed up news information, however I have noticed a lot of hysteria sent in PMs and on YouTube showing non-mainstream garbage, the latest, it is not a virus but the 5g. Problem is no mater who is puffing this up, feeds on many that bite.

How many ways can you say, it’s bad? Everyone knows that by now. How about the media concentrating on positive developments, the stories are out there but I guess doom and gloom sells better. In general I only expect the media to present what they want reported and the way they want it reported. The numbers don’t lie so just report them and move on!

Maybe it’s what you watch and read. The projections I’ve seen, from what I can determine are reputable experts, are that :
If we did nothing, up to 2 million could die. With mitigation (social distancing) we could bring it down to 100k. Now, these are nothing more than projections ( educated guesses) but I see no reason for Fauci, Birx, and others to be fudging the numbers. And I certainly see no reason for the media not to report it.

The media panders to what their audience wants (HAS BEEN TRAINED TO EXPECT).

Hence the rise of crap reality TV shows.

I've been watching this site for over a week now.  I live in Oakland County, MI.  They have never reported ANY  recovered cases.
https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Active cases and deaths are the only thing that changes, Recovered has ALWAYS BEEN ZERO!

I find that hard to accept, and a good example of the "Reporters" only presenting worst case senerios.

BTW, it is not just Oakland county, it is all the counties, all ZERO recoveries.  WE'RE DOOMED!  WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE (eventually).

The theory that faster 5G internet is either causing or accelerating the spread of the coronavirus is being shared widely on social media despite there being no evidence to support it.

My guess is that after persons are released from the hospital they are sent home to complete recovery.  I wouldn't be surprised if there's often no real follow up so that the doc can know of and report complete recovery.

They didn't have internet, TeleVee and texting at their disposal during the Spanish Flu.  It snuck up and they kinda just let 'er run, until it was too late.   Granted it was a different animal and era, vastly improved medical technology and knowledge, etc. nowadays but that technique didn't turn out so well.  Quarantine and social distancing are  ancient methods of fighting plague, but they work!  Sans vaccine, they're really our best bet.  That and washing your damn hands!

Do I like the lockdown?  Nope.  Do I believe it is well advised and in the best interest of our country?  In the short term, absolutely.  If it stretches much beyond another couple weeks, absolutely not.

Just be careful because people are going crazy from being in lock down!

Actually I’ve just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee and we all agreed that things are getting bad.

I didn’t mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything.  Certainly not to the fridge as she is acting cold and distant.  In the end, the iron straightened me out as she said everything will be fine, no situation is too pressing.

The vacuum was very unsympathetic… told me to just suck it up, but the fan was more optimistic and hoped it would all soon blow over!  The toilet looked a bit flushed when I asked its opinion and didn’t say anything but the door knob told me to get a grip.

The front door said I was unhinged and so the curtains told me to……. Yes, you guessed it……pull myself together.
