From the second floor window in the back of my house I can see the cul-de-sac just beyond the adjoining line of houses.  Yesterday i glanced out the window and saw several young people in the street there carefully staying six feet apart.  They were formed into a circle and bounce passing a basketball from one to another.  Anybody else see something wrong here?

Perhaps the governing powers call for such extreme measures because too many in the population are simply too stupid to understand how the virus spreads and what they need to do to reduce their chances.

Speaking of stupid, I'm seeing more and more people wearing masks in public even while staying more than six feet from everyone else.  A large number of them are wearing the mask pulled down below their noses.  The masks are not doing what they think the masks are doing but even if they did pulling it down off their noses would negate that, wouldn't it?

The governor of Michigan thinks that limiting the size of groups isn't enough and is considering making travel between residences illegal.

IMHO, the masks serve the same purpose as TSA at the airport - Security Theater.

Something that doesn't really help, but makes people think it does.

(And I got some myself just because it looks like they'll become mandatory, either by decree or social standards, shortly.)

Wearing the masks makes them feel better. Yes, it does little good. Especially the way many wear them. A lady came up to the meat counter the other day wearing a mask. She asked for something, but I couldn't understand her. I apologized and asked her to repeat it. She pulled down her mask and then told me what she wanted.  Smiley There is a lot of stress and anxiety out there. If wearing gloves and a mask relieves a little of that, who am I to call them stupid ? What I do have problem with is people sneezing and coughing within a foot of me. I was out stocking a case the other day and a guy walks inches right behind me, as he is directly behind me he coughs uncovered. Took all of my willpower not to lay into him.  tickedoff

This really shouldnt be an issue that has a political bias or bent. But with this virus going around and seeing the reaction to church services, meaning it seems only the dem governors are the ones persecuting churches for holding services I have to wonder if the differences are much deeper. In fact the dem governors seem to be the ones infringing on our freedoms much more as a general rule. Masks and gloves should be optional along with the people being responsible for their actions because as you pointed out strict application of the rules to contain the virus most dont seem to be able to keep.

I wear at least a bandanna like a mask when I go out. I fully realize it has zero anti virus properties, but I happen to have pneumonia right now. I was tested for Covid and found negative, simple pneumonia. This means I cough frequently. I wear it or another mask to make other people not panic.

They say the mask isn’t to prevent yourself from getting it...unless you’re wearing a properly fitted N95 mask...but if you aren’t wearing a full hazmat suit and doing a proper decontamination when you get home, it’s pointless. The purpose of wearing a mask is to prevent your spit/sneeze/cough particles from getting to others.  So I guess wearing it just over your mouth isn’t as dumb as it appears.

I haven’t had the flu in over twenty years. I have had no flu shot in twenty years. I stay away from sick people and don’t touch anything when I have to go where sick people go. This social distancing is only protecting a few stupid people. If everyone just practiced safe socializing we wouldn’t need to shut the country down. Maybe. Maybe. Older 65 and up or pre existing conditions that make one high risk should stay home until it passes.

This is a test to see how far they can push before citizens push back.

I haven’t had the flu in over twenty years. I have had no flu shot in twenty years.

Me neither.  I used to get a free shot at work every year (USAF and the VA), then just stopped and it made no difference (even taking the crowded trains and working in a big federal building all day).  I probably haven't had the flu for 40 years, though a few bad colds way back, so who knows.  Since retirement (and separation) 10 years ago, I have not even had one cold of any kind.  I've never been a germ freak (though I'm leaning that way now), but I don't hang out with humans that much, and never attend crowds.

While riding today on the scenic GW Parkway, I stopped near a gas station to take a break and have some water, and a guy (and a gal) pulled up in fancy black Porsche drop top.  He got out and made a big fuss about my supervalk interstate (and as usual was amazed it was 21 years old).  I told him we had the same kind of opposed cylinder engines.  I also complimented his Porsche, but he just wanted to talk about the bike.

I thought about offering a straight swap (for his car not his wife) (as I have another interstate at home), but I don't think his girl/wife would have appreciated it.

The GW Parkway.

...

A mask, non-surgical, is intended to keep one from through the breath (coughing, sneezing, or spittle) spreading droplets from the wearer.  The droplets and their contents are held to the mask.  If droplets borne through the air are caught on the way in by the mask, even after the droplets evaporate their contents remain and the wearer keeps breathing through them, eventually breathing them in.

The eyes are  not really a risk as we don't breathe through our eyes.  We become infected through our eyes by touch.  Obviously an exception would be if someone carrying the disease were to spit directly into our eyes.

Most of the folks wearing masks think they're protecting themselves.  The wise ones who understand they are protecting others from themselves are doing correctly.  They are a very small minority.

It's the best ride in town, if you stay in town.  45mph, and no lights and limited access points.  But forget it at quitting time; it's also the best non-freeway escape route south from Sodom on the Potomac (aka DC).

A county in central Florida starting today has mandatory wearing of masks. This keeps getting crazier. However they are starting to re-open places today like the local boat launches. People were gathering at them anyway. Folks need something to do.

We all received home made [ very nice masks] masks yesterday at our Easter party [ less than 10, only 9 of us] . It was a nice gesture but I doubt I'll wear it.

Young couple across the street-Gwens grandson and wife-gave me a home made face mask. And it turned out to be too cursed small! Then my mechanics Wife and his secretary told me I'd have one the next day from her capable hands. The 2nd mask fit WAY betta and much more comfortable with my O2 canula. If the stores appear crowded-I judge that from the parking lot-I DO put the mask on. Some folks here bouts still do NOT have Any comprehension of SIX FEET! And in my shy and retiring way I duz REMIND them.  Evil  2funny I also KNOW the mask DO NOT offer any Real medical protection. Case of more show than go. RIDE SAFE.

I've received a couple of homemade masks from SIL and found that they make my glasses fog a bit, so I tried spitting inside the mask to prevent fogging, like a scuba mask...

I agree with Willow.  I only wear a cloth mask when I go into a store.   I wear it to make sure that I am not spreading germs, not for keeping out germs.   I don't wear one when walking near my home or in my yard.  We do have a lot of area with limited folks moving about to go for walks.

My brother in law is a meat cutter as well. He told me the other day that when he was out stocking the case a woman came up right next to him looking at the product he was putting out. He told her to please back away 6 feet. He also told me he has a woman he works with that constantly invades his space. His wife (my sister) has severe asthma so if she got  the virus it wouldn't be good. He's done being polite about social distancing..

Rob you'd like my brother in law. Not only is he a meat cutter,he's a democrat too...lol...

Lady at grocery store with basket hooked on left arm.

Gloved and her right hand pushing face mask tight to face.

Guess which hand she uses to pick up her individual items from the shelves.

at work going in now they make you wear a mask to and from your desk but I take it off sitting keying all day long cannot breath or see out of it is annoying.   I put it back on if leave my desk to walk around not an issue but the day they make me wear it at my desk not able to work effectively is the day I pack up my desk and work from home doing 50 percent workload then piss on them.  I also have to sign a bogus form daily submitting to HR to cover their keester that I have practiced safe distancing while not at work and not aware of fever or visiting anyone with the virus or anyone sick for that matter.    Then they test my head with a heat gun I register only 96 degrees so I must be COOL right?   uglystupid2

I am tempted to put one of my hand warmers on HOT on my face right before they test me where they test and see if it reads say 110 degrees.  I wonder what they would do besides send me home?    2funny     I might just do that to see what they say after testing me with the heat gun since doubt anyone can be over 110 degrees right with my electric hand warmer going up to 150 degrees.

11°F?  I don't know for sure but, I doubt the Corona Virus can survive at that temp for long.   But then, the rider may not either.   I'm pretty sure that practicing "Social Distancing" won't be a problem either.   My wife doesn't even like getting into her Ridgeline with cold seats, she sure as hell won't get on the Valkyrie with that temp.   Thinking I'll just stay home and avoid most of those challenges.   Ride safe when you do.   cooldude
