Splicing or repairing even on the side of the road with just a lighter.  It works just as the add shows.  I used 18ga wire and put two ends in one side and one on the other to simulate a splice.  Then I cut the whole thing open to see the quality of the joint itself. Impressive.  These will go with me whenever I leave home.   cooldude

Been using and recommending them for years!   Mentioned them years ago on tech board and was poo-pooed.  Best things since sliced bread!

I've lookd at these before and they seem like a great idea. The ads I've seen are on FaceBook though and I've never trusted ordering/purchasing anything from FaceBook ads. Where have you purchased them?

I was buying them bulk and very inexpensively on eBay.   From China.  Angry  I'd now pay more,  and have seen them for more at Napa.

Yep solders, heat shrink wrap, and heat shrink wire holders for strengthening the repair

Yes. It's a combination sleeve of low temp solder with a heat shrink sleeve over it. You put the wires in both ends, apply heat to both melt the solder and heat-shrink the tubing and voila.....

Been using 'em myself for a while now, although haven't tried with a lighter, been using a heat gun, but haven't used 'em for a side of the road repair yet either.

There is another size white color smaller than all these and very handy for our bikes  too.

They have come out with some great stuff for us travel with now.
Remember when they came out with connections for plumbing
that had solder in them and all you had to do almost is heat them.

I've been worried about that aspect, when I use 'em I slip an extra regular heat shrink sleeve over the hot wire and another heat shrink over the whole thing once done just as extra insurance...

(Been using these for a while now, both on the Valks and on house wiring.)

I've seen the ads for those here and there online, but never bought any. When I was taught to solder wires, it was drilled in to me to make sure the wires were hot enough to melt the solder; not to melt the solder into the wires. Perhaps this type of low heat solder works OK for wiring connections. I'm just not familiar with it enough to say whether I'd be comfortable with a long-term repair made with it. I'd still prefer my solder method with marine-style heat shrink with sealant. Not easy to do on the side of the road, so maybe I'll buy a handful of these to throw in the roadside repair kit. While I can't recall ever having a roadside failure that these would have been helpful, I guess you never know.

There is a pack of 150 various sized in Amazon that I bought.
They are hard to beat for a quick repair that you end up forgetting about because they seem to last pretty well....so far!
For me it has been mainly boat trailer wires which seem to catch hell from things that are kicked up off the road and into the wiring.
