Nice article:
https://brainbucket.rumbleon.com/mystery-traub-motorcycle

Specs: 1278cc v-twin (in a time when the bigger HD/Indians were 500cc to 700cc) , top speed 85mph, gear box with 3 speeds.

It was all hand built and found in a walled room in 1967 in Chicago.

Apparently it was stolen from Traub's shop in 1916 and the father of the thief was enraged and sent him to fight in the WWI, which he sadly never returned.

It seems that the young rascal decided to hide the bike before leaving for war, which is why it sit hidden for so many decades untouched.

I got an up close and personal look at it last June.

It's at the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC.

Andy made a great tour guide.

He sounds alot like Britman though.

Very cool story!    cooldude

"The 80 ci V-twin engine of the 1916 motorcycle yields a capacity of 1,278cc. This was absolutely huge compared to other motorcycles at the time. For example, the 1919 Indian Scout was 500-745cc, and the 1919 584cc Harley-Davidson Model W three years later. The Traub could also easily reach 85 mph, which is also years ahead of its time. Pair this with the fact that the homemade Traub motorcycle was all built by hand, and you might begin to realize how awesome of a bike this truly is."
