To be able to have my shop in the backyard. So I can still work while in quarantine under stay at home orders.

I’m building a solid maple trestle table. Material is eight quarter soft maple. Beautiful wood. I’m at a stopping point because the next thing is to take these legs to my customer fir a fitting that’s going to have to wait. But it’s going to be awesome

I buy from a guy who orders just about anything one could need. You just have to wait for it. It’s not like running up to Lowes or Home Depot

Good lumber comes from old growth trees.  I bought all my lumber over 20 years ago, (4/4, 8/4, 12/4 and 16/4) mostly walnut and ash.

Will be using it until the end.

Looks beautiful, can’t wait to see finished product but unless my eyes deceive me that’s one huge trestle, how big is this table?

It’s not that big around but it’s 40 inches tall. They wanted a pub height table

Well yesterday my customer brought me a template of the table top. So, I was able to determine the distance between legs. It’s now all bolted together. Next I have to take it all apart and put it back together with glue. Then stain and it’s done

That's real nice work Jeff.   cooldude

I like trestle tables (have one right behind me), and that one appears heavy duty in the extreme.

What kind of top goes on it?

They have a piece of marble cut. But it can’t have over 10 inches overhang so I am going to make a 3/4” plywood sub top to support it.

***Update***

Today we got some color on the trestle table base. It’s a dark stain (Espresso). Monday I will burnish it a bit with steel wool to soften and blend the colors and then a satin poly.

Delivery tue. I’ll send a photo with the granite top

Poly almost dry. Non slip pads are in place. All we need is the slab of granite for top and it’s a wrap!

Good choice on the table top... I like that they didn't go with the same granite as on the countertops, but matched other colours in the kitchen to break it up a bit. I'm curious... did the customer provide the exact size spec and supply the top or did you source for them? Also, is the top just loose laid on the base on the pads?

The table looks great ... and I really enjoy following  these ongoing posts here that show projects being completed step by step....very nice work cooldude

We may have political differences, but share the love of woodworking. You did a really nice job on that table. As someone else said, you have skills.

The customer chose the top all they gave me was a template for the size so I could get the dimensions right. The top is just setting there. The bath fitter dude wanted to put a bead of silicone around the sub base. He was still talking to my customer about it when I left. I told him that 200 lb top wasn’t going anywhere. But they were nervous because they love their calk.

Thanks for the compliments.
