Politics being as it has for the last 20 years, who do you like as possible candidates for President? I’d like to see a time when we could vote for the best candidate rather than the lesser of two evils.

I have done no investigations, but there are some people I really like. One is Tim Scott of South Carolina. He strikes me as level headed, very intelligent, and a bridge builder. Another guy I like is John James from Michigan who I know less about but I think we will be seeing more of him in the years to come. Jim Jordan and Trey Gowdy  are both high on my likability index.

I’m sorry there are no women on my list, but no one stands out in my mind, not that they are not out there. When we finally do elect a female President, I want it to be because she is a real crackerjack, not because of her anatomy.

Assuming we're going by currently active people a few off the top of my head:

Rand Paul
Candace Owens (Although she's gotten a wee bit tin-foil hatty as of late, the base is good)
Ted Cruz
Rand Paul
John McAfee
Willow
Rand Paul

I was thinking of a position with the FDA, Director of fruits and nuts division.

As to who would make a good president, I am very impressed with Mike Pence.

Walter Williams.  Who?  He is free thinking economist at George Mason University and syndicated columnist.  I have yet to read a column with which I disagreed.  But at 84 probably too old.

Agreed, I should have expressed it as after Trumps second term. I’d vote for Mike Pence too, given the opportunity. After four more years of Trump both parties will have some heated primaries. The last two Presidential primaries haven’t had a lot to offer, it seemed as if some perspective candidates looked at the race and said, “oh well, might as well give it a shot”.

John McAfee and my wife's uncle were college room mates and remain friends to this day.

That wouldn't be a bad connection to have.

But, I really think that Mike Pence would make a great president.

Maybe, John could be his running mate.

Bingo! I knew I should have been able to come up with at least one viable female candidate. I think she would fill the bill.

IF Trump wins and Pence decides to try, I don’t see why not to vote for him. From what I know of Ms. Haley she may make a good candidate. If Trump is successful this election I can potentially see Don Jr. throwing his hat in the ring in the future.

Before this C19 thing I had a good feeling on a 2nd term for POTUS but now I’m not so sure. The unexpected unemployment is record numbers...astronomical with more to come. I’m afraid there could be a shift in voting decisions plus those extra numbers that voted against him gaining traction and adding more to their base.

The anti Trump election rhetoric hasn’t even begun yet and we’re bombarded everywhere with just normal anti Trump media.

I think that we and President Trump will survive the Covid 19 Pandemic just fine.

If he can get the economy opened back up soon it will have bounced back or be well on its way by November.

Right now the "Only" thing that the Dems and the MSM media have is their claim that he didn't act quickly enough.

Yet, there are plenty of soundbites of them loudly criticizing everything that he did early on as "Too Much Too Soon".

They'll try, but they can't spin their way out of this one.

Biden, can't stop himself from making gaffs that show his incompetence.

People aren't as dumb as the Left and the MSM think that they are.

Most will recognize that President Trump was/is in a no win situation and he has handled it as well as any President could (better than some).

We got 4.5 yrs to get things changed so President Trump will be re-elected thru 2028.

Then Tom Homan elected President and Candice Owens Vice (she'll be eligible then! Unless we can get that changed too...)

LOL!  Florida doesn't count as Southern.  It is southern in location but far from Southern in culture.   Wink

I probably wouldn't vote for Nikki Haley.  Unlike much of the population I wouldn't vote for a woman just because I think it's time we elected a woman.  I would only vote for a woman when she is the best candidate considering qualifications of all candidates including both genders.

I have wondered about Nicky Haley's chances of running.  She was a good Governor of my state, South Carolina (does that quality as being "southern") and she seemed to be able to handle the UN job.

I like Mike Pence but I don' know enough about his background and abilities to "take charge" the way President Trump has.   I think Nicky could do that.  So, I would support her if she chooses to run.

One of the things that has made Trump successful (in my opinion) is that he is not a politician in the typical sense.  He is a businessman (for lack of a better term) who appears to understand how to get a job done but does not need to play politics while so doing.

I think a Ben Shapiro/Candace Owens team in 2024 would be unstoppable.
 - Both have been in the political spot light since adolescence, thus no skeletons in closets.
 - Both speak a level headed truth that resonates with people.
 - Ben is a Libertarian, and Candace is a Conservative making a well balanced team.
 - Both have good values.

ps - I won't apologize for thinking a Ben/Candace team is better than a Candace/Ben team.

I now think Trump has qualities that make him the only Republican who could have won in 2016.  Here are my top 3:

#1 - He's a brawler.  The dems and their wholly owned media will dig up dirt on any opponent, making it up if necessary.  Examples are the Kavanaugh hearings and the Steele dossier.  But Trump doesn't respond like they expect.  Dinesh D'Souza has an example:  when Romney was criticized for being too rich, he responded with embarrassment and apologies.  But Trump responds with something like: "You're damn right I'm rich!  But where you're wrong is I'm even richer than you think!"  So far his opponents haven't figured out how to handle this.

#2 - He has a flamboyant and entertaining personality.  This keeps his base fired up.  It also energizes his opponents, and drives them crazy.

#3 - He's decisive and does what he believes is right regardless of the political consequences.  When he cuts off funding for the WHO, or moves the US Embassy to Jerusalem, even some detractors grudgingly admit he's right.

I don't see any potential candidates with these qualities.  Nikki Haley might be close, and possibly Sarah Huckabee Sanders.  Maybe we need to look outside of the political arena.  Neither Trump nor Reagan were career politicians.
